An interesting article here, pointing out that Born-Again type Christianity is, in some ways, less strongly opposed to atheism, agnosticism, etc than it would initially appear to be. While I agree with all the statements that the author makes, in principle (to cut it down to basics, his argument is that both are about finding your own way regardless of whatever religion has been handed down to you from your family and upbringing), he's missing the bigger point - there's actually a movement across the spectrum of religious beliefs leading people to make their own decisions and choose their own path. It started in the sixties, I suspect, when hippy kids ran off to experiment with eastern religions and so on.

The other half of his argument, is that there isn't a "God gap" in America. I'll agree with that, too, to a certain extent. The gap isn't between the religious and the non-religious, as was made blatantly clear to me when I was going to the local Unitarian Church. The gap is between moral conservatives and moral liberals.
