Hope all my East Coast friends are doing okay with the earthquake and aftershocks.
5.9 is a pretty respectable earthquake, especially in a region that's not very used to them! Anybody have any good stories from it?

Date: 2011-08-23 10:34 pm (UTC)Oops. Yeah, I can see how that would be the first thought! And kind of no less scary, when you think of it...
The local news is full-on freaking out, though.
Ah yes, the desperate love of the 24-hr news cycle for anything it can possibly spin into an emergency or crisis. We get that crap every time there's a freaking windstorm around here. "STORM WARNING!!!" ...Honestly, if there isn't firewood flying at my house (which I have had happen before!), it's not a real storm. :P
Glad to hear there's no serious injuries or damage! The last update I'd heard before I went off my lunch break was that there was a bit of damage at the national capitol, but it sounds like all stuff that can be fixed.

I think the local news here will talk about it for a day and then go back to talking about the flooding, which is really the big story around here. (Pittsburgh had some rather tragic flash flooding last Friday and 4 people drowned).
