beautiful rain

It was terribly hot for here yesterday (96 F and sooooo huuuuuumid), and the clouds had rolled in thick over the afternoon, so I thought a thunderstorm was possible, but not certain because they're fairly uncommon here. The Boy was playing with L up in his bedroom, and I wanted to take a bath later so I decided to take the recycling out. Hauled a few armloads around to the back of the garage... and started to feel big fat raindrops coming down. Just a few, but they made me smile. And then flash, BOOM. Got another armload out, then stood in the dribbling warm rain for a minute. Drip drip drip... and I can't resist standing with my arms outstretched, hands and face turned up to the sky.

And then it gets harder.

Okay, I think... raise my hands out to it. Just for fun. And turn around once in it.

And then I hear it before I feel it -- WHOOSH. The drops are HUGE and coming down HARD, and I laugh and skitter under the eaves and back inside, totally giddy and feeling like a goddamned weather witch with the smell of moss and ozone on my skin and everywhere around.

It stopped soon after I went inside, but it was fantastic.

Last night after five days of heat, we had a thunderstorm that sat a mile off of us for over two hours. Quite the show.

Thunderstorms seem to be happening everywhere lately. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
