Just bought our tickets for Emerald City Comic Con in March. Never been before, despite it being literally three blocks from my apartment, but... well, shall we say that I couldn't resist one of their major guests this year?

Yeah, and I'm totally going to be buying the t-shirt he designed for the event, too. That right there is a 'must have,' and I'm especially glad that they specifically say they'll have it in men's and women's sizes. ♥
rivendellrose: (BOOM)
So, as some of you know, I completely dropped the freaking ball on [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking due to a combination of family/holiday stress, crazy life events (read: omg!engaged!), and a pathetic and debilitating bout with writer's block. In short, I suck, and I apologize for that.

But do you know who doesn't suck? Freaking everybody else over at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking, that's who! They (including several of you!) freaking rock, because when I went my guilty little way to check my stocking this evening, I had a ton of absolutely freaking amazing stuff. I'm serious, there was wibbling. ♥

[livejournal.com profile] icepixie wrote me the most fantastically adorable Marcus/Susan fic ever, designed around the five poems that Marcus Cole knows by heart (and oh, are they perfect, and it's all so very Marcus. ♥

[livejournal.com profile] sophia_sol, who I don't even know, is my hero because she wrote me this awesome little Expendable drabble, and it made me very happy. ♥ Likewise [livejournal.com profile] sentientcitizen (whose username alone makes me grin), tried to write Expendable fic, only got one good sentence out of it, but it is one hell of an amazing sentence. I'm going to have to keep an eye on her from now on, because I bet the rest of that might come out eventually.

[livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42 wrote me Harry Sullivan and Sarah Jane Smith and space octopi!!! And [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_llin wrote wrote Ace and Romana!

Lastly but not in the least bit leastly, [livejournal.com profile] isilrandir, who I must clearly keep an eye on in the future, wrote me an absolutely beautiful bit of Abe/Liz from the Hellboy comics, and I squeed a lot because this is my favorite little slightly-canon and oh-so-perfect pairing. Seriously, I love those two, and this fic just catches them perfectly.

So much wonderful fic! ♥ So happy!!!

Halloween fic the second, and I do hope this one doesn't disappoint.

Fandom: Hellboy (movie-canon)
Characters: Abe, Nuala, Manning, mentions of the rest of the team.
Summary: [livejournal.com profile] websandwhiskers asked to see "Halloween from the flip side, i.e. the Fey view of it. Bonus points for BPRD Agents viewing Halloween the way cops view New Year's Eve. Bonus Bonus points for Red and Liz's twins being involved somehow." I managed to get most of this, I think, though it took a damned circuitous route to get there.
Warnings: Un-beta'd, but otherwise quite safe and G-rated.

Spent a few hours holed up in Bauhaus Coffee writing, then wandered for a while. Got some compliments on my white paper parasol (including one from a guy who called it a 'parasail,' which was amusing), and then ended up (as one does) at Half Price Books, thinking "I'll just check to see if they have any movie art or tv books I can't live without, and then leave." Because I live in hope that somewhere there are art books for "Pan's Labyrinth," the first "Hellboy" movie, and, yes, B5. (Shut up - concept art is one of my passions, and I long to own whatever exists of it for anything I love.)

They did not have any of the above, nor any other movie art-books that I wanted, but they did have a huge, gorgeous hard-cover collected art-book for the "Hellboy" comics. $50, for sketches and drawings and so on that aren't published anywhere else? I did what any psychotic collector would do - I made the nice man get it out of the case for me, and then told him to hold onto it while I checked downstairs for some manga that The Boy wanted. Which was where, wandering in the "media tie-in" section, I found a $5 copy of what looks like a terribly bad B5 comic called "The Price of Peace." I tried not to buy it. I really did. But at $5, my collecting neurosis wouldn't let me leave it. Mock me if you wish, but I take pleasure in the fact that between the price and the under-the-ground level of my expectations, I cannot help but be at least tolerably satisfied.

And now, eating cold grapes and trying to get a bit more writing in before The Boy gets home from a Saturday stint at the office.

Del Toro is no longer going to be directing The Hobbit. He's still going to be helping to co-write the script, but will otherwise not be directly involved, it sounds like.
Also, the bitter cynical side of me says that Del Toro leaving means that he doesn't think the project is going to get the green-light from the studio anytime soon.

I'm torn between "OH GOD NO, NOW WHO WILL MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T SUCK???!!!" just in case it does actually go through, and a tiiiiny little voice that immediately says "...So, does this mean we might get the third Hellboy movie after all?"

rivendellrose: (feeling blue)
Today, it took me 40 minutes to finish the new Hellboy trade I'd been eagerly awaiting. And another 40 minutes to at least soften the resulting "WTF? And where is the rest of that?!" echoing in my head. That's the problem with comic books, for me - I read them too quickly. 40 minutes later, I'm through with the book, but as far as my brain is concerned I've only really read about four chapters worth of content, so my brain is wondering where the hell the next four (or ten...) chapters are and why we don't get them right now damn it.

Besides, this was a seriously weird one with some seriously huge revelations. So, you know. Coping must be done. It was awesome. But coping must be done, and now I am feeling somewhat bereft and abandoned by it having been such a quick read, if that makes sense.

So, to try to shut up my inner instant-gratification-whore, I thought I might go flip through some of my older stuff, just for kicks. At which point I remembered how much I like Ryan Sook's style for BPRD, and how much I hate Guy Davis'... which is a pity given it's Guy Davis who continued the series.

There is no fanfic left in this universe that I have not read and which is not of a pairing that gives me hives. And of course my own fic is still stalled. As is my original stuff. Wooooo. I'm going to go stare at one or the other and try to make one or the other of them go somewhere.
rivendellrose: (flirty)
1. ZipCar reservations (for the purpose of going to Ikea to get another bookshelf) are only good if the person who has the truck before you doesn't somehow blow out all the lights on the left rear part of the truck, causing ZipCar to call you up and tell you that you can only have the truck if you're willing to drive it to a particular mechanic-place that they use and buy the replacement parts (lightbulbs, they said, but from what the girl said, The Boy and I were convinced it was going to be the fuse) with our own money and then apply for reimbursement. Ha. No. What the hell? Granted, our reservation had been for all day, but what if (as we often do) we'd only reserved it for a few hours? That would have eaten our whole reservation! What the hell kind of system is that? And they didn't even know what was wrong with the stupid thing!

2. Turns out, PacSun actually has awesome t-shirts that actually fit me. Go figure. It's The Boy's favorite shop for clothes, but I didn't honestly think they'd have anything I'd like.

3. Thing that The Boy learned today: If, in the course of talking about conventions, he makes a joke about going to a hardware store, finding a door-knocker, and dressing up as Roger from the Hellboy / BPRD comics and having me dress up as Liz, I will in fact not only agree whole-heartedly to the idea, but immediately start to work on how I can make the costumes. After all, I (unlike him) like Liz, and... well, I wouldn't be the one going around the con in a unitard, a vest, and a door-knocker, would I? Plus, I could probably use it as an excuse to buy an awesome pair of tight black jeans and a long dark red wig. So, win-win situation for me, whereas he... would be walking around a con wearing a door-knocker on his crotch. I'm just saying. ;)
rivendellrose: (Abe)
So, most people know, I think, that I've been binging hardcore on the Hellboy comics, lately. I went off on a huuuuge kick after I got the last few I'd been missing at Christmas, and the one Abe Sapien trade, and then today while we were out on an errand to pick up a bit of furniture we bought off [livejournal.com profile] zinjadu, well, we were right in front of one of the comic stores anyway, so I just zipped in and bought two of the BPRD trades that I didn't have yet.

They are, shall we say, somewhat of a mixed bag.

Not sure if anyone else is reading them, but if they are, there are spoilers here for 'Garden of Souls' and 'The Soul of Venice and Other Stories' )

So, all in all, not a bad run... although I will be flipping more carefully through artists when I'm buying future trades in the BPRD run.

To bed with me, now - we're re-starting the exercise regime tomorrow, and I'd rather not fall asleep on the elliptical. Or, you know, at my desk. :P

Title: Water Under the Bridge
Fandoms: Hellboy and Torchwood/Doctor Who.
Characters: Yvonne Hartman, Jack Harkness, Liz Sherman, Hellboy, and Abe Sapien, and one other brief cameo if you a) squint and b) aren't too attached to canon.
Pairing: Jack/Abe
Summary: The BPRD wants some help from Torchwood, and Yvonne sends someone she wants to get rid of for a while. Jack decides he doesn't mind one bit.
Warnings: Again, it's Jack-fic. There is sex. It's consensual and not graphic, but if you're underage or that's not your thing, don't read it. Also, spoilers for Hellboy II.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, and I don't mean to infringe.
Notes Originally posted here, but I wasn't satisfied with the original version, and now I've done enough editing and tweaking on this one that I figured I'd just repost, rather than quietly editing the old one.

Set, mysteriously, pre-series for Torchwood, and yet post-movie for the Hellboy crew. Don't ask me how that works. The back-stories here are not compliant with the Torchwood episode Fragments, which I, personally, detest. Because really, there are so many more interesting and sensible ways that all of that could have happened. None of them, unfortunately, involve the BPRD. Except here.

And it’s all [livejournal.com profile] beam_oflight’s fault. This one’s for you, sweetheart. As usual, you managed to send me exactly the bunny I never knew I needed to write. ;) (And look! Despite being Jack, it even has a sort of a plot!)

This is still not the Abe-fic I've been working on for a year. That, with luck, will come later.

Because you, Mr Harkness, are a problem for Torchwood. )
