i, for one, welcome our coming octopus overlords <3

The veined octopus in Australia is added to the ongoing list of animals known to use tools.

Not only use, I would add - modify and carry around with them for future use. The shells are useless to them until they've cleaned out the silt and other muck that the shells accumulate, and then they have to carry the shell around until they need it - it's no good if they see a predator and then look for a shell. So that's a degree of planning ahead as well.

I have a picture somewhere (I think it was off the main "octopus" Wiki page?) of a tiny octopus hiding inside a clamshell. Cutest thing in the freaking world. ♥

Also, hee, octopodes. I learned a few months ago that was the technically-correct plural, but I've been too shy to use it in anything but a "did you know the proper plural is really..." kind of context. XD

Haha, I admit I was a bit nervous to use it myself, but I figured that as a Classics major it was my job. Especially after reading the Oedipus Tyrannos and its thousand references to feet all semester.

Oh, you're well in your rights. I'm afraid my "I thought about being a Classics major and took all the pre-reqs and basic classes" might not qualify me quite enough for this one. ;)
