twelve angry characters

The 12 characters meme is making the rounds again, and it gives me something to fuss with between tasks, so....

1. Mal Reynolds (Firefly)
2. Marcus Cole (B5)
3. Dana Scully (XF)
4. Zoe Alleyne Washburne (Firefly)
5. Susan Ivanova (B5)
6. River Tam (Firefly)
7. Fox Mulder (XF)
8. Delenn (B5)
9. Inara Serra (Firefly)
10. Badger (Firefly)
11. Tony Foster ('Smoke and...' books)
12. Claire Hansen (Keeper books)

Okay... this whole "you can't copy/paste things from LJ" thing is really getting on my nerves. Maybe if I switch to a different layout... no. Okay, fine. We'll do this the hard way, then. *Growls*

1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 (River Tam) or 11 (Tony Foster)?
River. Definitely River. She'd be crazy, but even if the subject is something he loves and is good at, Tony would suck as a teacher. Gods love him, but he's just not that kind of guy.

2. Do you think 2 (Marcus) is hot?
Well, yes. I mean, come on... I have a thing for Aragorn, right? Add a better sense of humor and an adorable accent (both very good things!) and you have Marcus. Plus, Marcus is not engaged to an eternally gorgeous and elf-woman, but rather is hopelessly in love with a snarky, world-weary woman who I am, myself, also smitten with. And who canonically likes civilian blondes. I fail to see what about this could be not perfect. ♥

3. 12 (Claire) sends 8 (Delenn) on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?
Given all that happens on B5, I have no trouble believing that a hole would form there that a Keeper would have to be found to deal with. Once she's there, though (probably via the elevator at the old Elysian Fields Guest house...) Claire would clearly need help. She sends Delenn in search of the technomages, who are actually the B5-verse branch of the lineage. And of course they succeed - two such determined and bull-headed women could hardly fail if they put their heads together! Besides, Austin would be miserable on a space station, so he'd do everything in his power to get them back to Earth ASAP.

4. What is or would be 9 (Inara)'s favorite book?
I always have a hard time with this question, because it effectively has to be a book I've read, or at least know enough about to 'recommend.' So I'll take it in that sense - as a recommendation to the character rather than a definitive 'their favorite would be ___' Out of the books I've read in the (fairly) recent past, I think Inara would very much appreciate The Confessions of Lady Nijo.

5. Would it make more sense for 2 (Marcus) to swear fealty to 6 (River), or the other way around?
The former. Marcus is a swearing-of-fealty kind of guy, without a doubt.

6. For some reason 5 (Susan) is looking for a roommate. Should she share a studio apartment with 9 (Inara) or 10 (Badger)?
o_O Unless she wants to test whether Garibaldi could shield her from murder charges, she should go with Inara. Besides, those two might actually get along pretty well...

7. 7 (Mulder) and 12 (Claire) have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?
This would have been ever so much more amusing had I picked Vicki instead of Claire, but it's still... oddly easy to imagine. They'd go out to pizza, get a supreme with everything but green peppers (am I making up that Claire hates peppers, [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret? It's been too long...), and talk about - what else? The supernatural, of course! They could trade stories about the different cases they've worked on, and Claire could give Mulder pointers on dealing with ghosts and such.

8. 3 (Scully) challenges 10 (Badger) to a duel. What happens?
Considering Scully's idea of a 'duel' would be "Federal agent - freeze or I'll shoot," followed by a shot to the leg or arm if he didn't follow directions... she'd win.

9. If 1 (Mal) stole 8 (Delenn)'s most prized possession, how would she get it back?
...I fear the thought of Delenn's rage if she were to lose something she cared about. Particularly since I can't actually think of a thing that she would care that much about, which only leaves people, and that... would be very very bad. Although why Mal would kidnap Sheridan is totally beyond me, unless he for some reason felt like partnering with someone who is even more of a dumb puppy than he is... Okay, hang on, I've got it. Clearly, Mal has been hired to kidnap the IA president for ransom. Clearly his client doesn't realize that the true power behind the alliance is Delenn... who would immediately go scary-'be elsewhere'-Delenn and go after him with half the White Star fleet. Knowing that Serenity stood not a snowflake's chance in hell against even one of them, Mal would very quickly announce that there'd been a terrible misunderstanding and release Sheridan. And because she's a benevolent sort, once the crisis had been averted and her ire was down, Delenn would let them go and possibly give them an opportunity for more legitimate work... which Mal would refuse on principle, of course (he doesn't contract for governments, especially the ones called "Alliance"), but it was nice of her to try. ;)

10. Suggest a title for a story in which 7 (Mulder) and 12 (Claire) both attain what they most desire.
"Driven, Intelligent Career Women and the Hockey-Loving Puppies Who Love Them."

11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 (Zoe) and 1 (Mal) to work together?
...A rare and precious little thing called 'canon.'

12. If 7 (Mulder) visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?
Very well for about an hour, and then I would remember that I hate his taste in movies, crackpot theories make me cranky, and he seems to have adult-onset ADD. I'd have to slip away occasionally for some sanity, but we could probably get some good touristing done on the spooky parts of Seattle. Go looking for bigfoot or something, I don't know. It could definitely be fun, if frustrating.

13. If you could command 3 (Scully) to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?
How is it that every time I do this meme, I get this question for a female character who I would be petrified to ask anything of? Okay... Scully. Honestly, I'd beg her to teach me how she does her hair (I've always loved that style, and we have similar facial shapes so I think it'd look good on me... but I'm dumb about hair), and tell me stories about all their cracked-out cases while she was at it.

14. Does anybody on your friends-list write or draw 11 (Tony)?
...Heh. I actually have the author's journal friended, so yes. Otherwise, no, and that should be remedied!

15. If 2 (Marcus) had to choose sides between 4 (Zoe) and 5 (Susan), which would it be?
First, let me take a moment to say that I feel so sorry for Marcus in this question, if only because if those two were fighting, the end of the world must quickly follow. However, while I would suffer from torn loyalties like nobody's business, Marcus would side with Susan without a second thought... even if she was wrong.

16. What might 10 (Badger)shout while charging into battle?
Battle? "You guys - shoot them."

17. If you had to choose a song to represent 8 (Delenn), which song would it be?
Why is it always the ones I could never begin to pick a song for? Okay... I'm embarassed to admit this, but somehow I ended up listening to Sheila Chandra's The Enchantment at some point while writing for Delenn, and now it's stuck in my brain as associated with her. So that's probably the best I can do, more for sound quality than for lyrics or meaning.

18. 1 (Mal), 6 (River), and 12 (Claire) are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?
Mal would defer to the girls, and Claire would defer to River (as long as she didn't remind her too much of Diana), but Austin would grab it and run away to gobble it up before Claire could stop him. :D

19. What might be a good pick-up line for 2 (Marcus) to use on 7 (Mulder)?
............
I refuse to answer this question on the basis that thinking any further about it will break my brain. Moving right along.

20. What would 5 (Susan) most likely be arrested for?
Finally snapping and killing Bester. Pity she never met Byron... she'd have solved that problem real fast.

21. What is 6 (River)'s secret?
Unlike Simon, she actually prefers their life on Serenity to the life she had back home, even before things went bad. It's more fun.

22. If 11 (Tony) and 9 (Inara) were racing to a destination, who would get there first?
Even without application of wizardry, Tony would win. Up til a few years ago he was a street kid - he had to be fast.

23. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 (Mulder) or 8 (Delenn)?
I'm going to have to go for Mulder on this one, although in any other circumstance I'd prefer Delenn.

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
8. 3 (Scully) challenges 10 (Badger) to a duel. What happens?
Considering Scully's idea of a 'duel' would be "Federal agent - freeze or I'll shoot," followed by a shot to the leg or arm if he didn't follow directions... she'd win.

I think my icon says it all. I don't know who Badger is but personally there are only three other characters who could take on Scully and if not win at least come out equal. (those would be Aeryn Sun, Susuan Ivanova and Delenn of Mir XD)

20. What would 5 (Susan) most likely be arrested for?
Finally snapping and killing Bester. Pity she never met Byron... she'd have solved that problem real fast.

Erm...you did know that Susan was supposed to fall in love with Byron right? That's why JMS had to scrap eight scripts in S5 and start all over again, he had to write Lyta as the one to fall in love with Byron. If CC had stayed Lyta would just have loved Byron from afar.

I still say having a spin off with Susan and Corwin fighting the Psi Corp and The Cult of Zombie Hippies would have been better than the teep war we were given.

23. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 (Mulder) or 8 (Delenn)?
I'm going to have to go for Mulder on this one, although in any other circumstance I'd prefer Delenn.

Okay this one I don't get, 'cause Mulder drops his gun all.the.freaking.time. XD
At least Delenn could kick some ass with her denn'bok and I would totally hide behind her. XD

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Badger... is a low-life criminal boss who fancies himself a businessman and possible politician. She could totally kick his ass. XD

I didn't until today, no! And since finding this out, my opinion of JMS has taken an immense nose-dive. I just... cannot even begin to understand where out of his ass he would've pulled that. Eew.

Granted, Mulder's a total dork. But he's an armed dork, and a federal agent, and from the perspective of random hoodlums (what am I, my grandmother? I can't think of a better word at the moment, though...) he's much more intimidating than Delenn. My logic here is that although Delenn is actually somewhat dangerous (I would submit that as far as I can tell, she usually doesn't carry a denn'bok or any other sort of weapon, and the one time she was accosted by a bunch of creeps on the Zocalo (early S2, maybe GROPOS?) she panicked and froze up, unable to do anything), we look equally helpless, thus getting us into a lot of trouble. Besides, I have just enough occasional moments of stupidity that I might actually be tempted, in the heat of the moment, to try to protect her... which would be a total failure.

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah she'd wipe the floor with him. :D

Yeah, I think he mentions it in a commentary or I read it somewhere but I remember my jaw hitting the floor painfully. After all the crap she went through and she falls in love with...that? It wasn't crack he was on it was acid it had to be.

Well he's armed but he looses weapon all the time, even when he got a back up weapon he lost that one too. XD
I actually have the instinct to protect him and slap him on the head as well. And you just know he would go running after the guys and I'm not going to go after him. He's all the time getting brainwashed, tortured, beat up, captured by aliens, no thank you. I'll just run the other way like the cowardly lion I am. Or he'd be distracted by lights in the sky...

Plus, I just want to see Delenn fight...*zones out thinking about both types of headbones...*

-whaaa? Oh sorry. XD

Oh yes. :D

After all the crap she went through and she falls in love with...that?

Exactly my point. The really funny (and scary) thing is that my first reaction to Byron was "yes, I realize Marcus is gone - we do not need to dishonor his memory by replacing him with a poncy little jackass with a bad version of his hairstyle." And now I find out that JMS had intended on him actually winning over Ivanova? Oh hell no. If anybody gets her, it'd damned well better be someone worthwhile - you know... someone intelligent and actually charming as opposed to supposedly charming? Someone who could make her laugh? Someone who isn't a whiney little bastard?

...Although it'd fit her pattern, given that one ex of hers we met in the first season. He put off creepy-bastard vibes like nobody's business. *Squicked*

Hmm. Good point on the running or getting distracted by lights. I'll just waive the whole question and request Marcus, Ivanova, or Zoe. Any of those three would be more than perfectly acceptable. *g*

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you gotten to the singing yet? That scarred me, really.

See I never even realized he could be a Marcus-rip off, I was to busy hiding myself between the cushions of my couch when he's on screen. The hair alone...*twitches* He had all the charsima of a three day old animal carcass, the Ivanova I know would knee him in the balls for just breathing near her. What about Talia? She resented her for like a season and a half before she even let her get close and she just falls for him in two episodes? Bah.

Oh, man. That guy creeped me out even before he was revealed to be a HomeGuard crazy and I usually love Aussie accents but even that didn't help. *shivers* Dude, had a serious dead eye problem.

Now Ivanova I would take. She's like Scully in a way except where Scully won't shoot to kill, Ivanova does. Every time. XD
ext_18428: (all love is unrequited)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-09-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the singing was scary. Yeeep.

It only occurred to me because of the hair - and even then I'm not sure why the thought crossed my mind since really the only similarity is that both of them wear it long and Prince Valiant-y. The difference being, of course, that on Marcus it looked scruffy and handsome, while on Byron it makes him look like a pathetic poncy git. ...Or it could just be that I hate him. XD

YES. Dead-eye is exactly the description I was looking for!

Dear gods yes. I'm so totally in love with that woman. Biting wit, fabulous sense of humor, sardonic as all hell, and gorgeous besides. I want, very badly. ♥

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why were they singing outloud anyway? They are telepaths or have they been faking the whole time. Those damn frauds!

I really liked Marcus's look - the hair, the scruffy beard, it worked for him. But Byron - it's like they wanted him to be Shakespear or someone like that. It didn't work and now that I think about it, you're right nothing could have really helped the character.

I wonder if the actor was going for the dead-eye look? I truly hope so because if not that makes it creepier.

I want Ivanova and Delenn at the same time. Does that make me greedy? XD

And this might be TMI but I don't like threesomes in any genre, I'm just an old stick in the mud I guess. XD
ext_18428: (all love is unrequited)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
o_O That's a really good point. They were probably just being show-offs, the bastards.

Oh hell yes, Marcus was gorgeous. He's probably the only male character on the show that I'm attracted to. ...Well, okay, a little bit to G'Kar. Occasionally Sheridan. And my feelings toward Lennier could best be described as 'complicated.' But mostly, it's just Marcus. :D

God I hope so. We can only hope that he doesn't just look like that normally....

Nah, I want Ivanova and Marcus both, and occasionally I think I want Delenn too, so... I guess if you're greedy I'm just a horrible person. ;)

In real life, I think I'm waaaay too jealous to ever even consider a threesome. In fiction, it really depends on the characters. Oddly, I think I could see Delenn being okay with the idea, but I really can't picture Ivanova as going for it. Although it's hard to say. And it's okay, I'm mostly an old stick in the mud, too. Just a stick with a very active fantasy life. :P

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
You know JMS wrote that song for the telepaths to sing, right?

I thought he was cute, I prefer Aragorn though. :D It's funny usually I'm all lusty for the long haired, scruffy, goatee guys. So only being mildly attracted to Marcus was a suprise.
And I have no idea why. Hmm, I'm must think on that because that really is strange.

G'Kar is sexy for his voice alone and occasionally his spots. I have never been attracted to Sheridan except for S5, I really did love the goatee.

Nah, you're just full of love. ;D

In rl I am too, plus I'm not a great multi-tasker, way to many people and appendages. Also I'm like a retarded kitten I get distracted to easily. XD Same thing with the fantasy I have a lively imagination but I can only concentrate on so many things at once. XD j/k

As of right now? My active fantasy life is all I've got. :D
ext_18428: (gag reel!)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
*Grumbles* Yes. And I'm sure it was a lovely song, but the context killed it for me.

I don't know what I'd do if I had to pick between them (just imagine that...), but I love them both. Long-hair scruffy goatee guys are pretty much my favorite sort, and Marcus pretty much had me from the first instant he was on the show. I'd be interested to hear what it is, if you can figure out what you don't like about him!

Oh, the voice. So much love for Andreas' voice. ♥ And yes, Sheridan was definitely more attractive in S5 than the others... though I admit every now and then I find the expressions he makes just plain adorable. Such cute little "how the hell did I get into this?" sorts of faces.

That's what happens when a person is single for too long....... ;)

I'm not a great multi-tasker, way to many people and appendages. Also I'm like a retarded kitten I get distracted to easily

Okay, this is a very good point. I'd probably be completely useless in a threesome, because I'd just get boggled. Too many things to keep track of! This is why it'd only work if it was two people more dominant than me.

Right there with you, sister. *Sighs*

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, God no. I was boggled by the fact that the same man who wrote that song also wrote every single one of G'Kar's speeches.

Well, I like his personality and all but phyiscally...I don't know he is my exact type even down to the hair but I just don't find him attractive...just cute.

*snerk* Yeah Sheridan's facial expressions crack me up. That 'what the hell...?' look is his best one though, he's such a big dumb lovable puppy. :D

Exactly - now I'm not a fainting wallflower or anything I can be pretty bossy sometimes. But I'd probably sit there in front of two people thinking "what do I do now...?"

XD
ext_18428: (gag reel!)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I plugged my ears, then. XD

How can you not love a face that earnest? ;) No, honestly, I kind of know what you mean - he's a bit odd looking. Fortunately, I like odd, so it worked.

He is! And so damned adorable while being completely irritating.

Thing is, I can definitely be bossy... but I prefer not to be. Actually, to borrow a description from my ex-girlfriend, I nag. And I hate it. So I'm better off with someone who has a strong enough personality that I either won't be tempted to nag and snipe (that sounds awful...), or who will push me right back when I do it. But I'm horribly non-agressive /dominant in sexual situations. Um. TMI, sorry. So, yeah, probably the same situation for me. "So.... what now?"

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Marcus is cute and I just love the long hair and goatee but I was just never in to him for some reason. Actually I'm more attracted to the females in this show than the males...Hmmm, interesting. :D

Irritating to a fault sometimes and yet still huggable.

I am a nagger and bossy but only in certain situations. I also can be be less than tactful sometimes the bad part is that I don't know I'm being tactless. But I have found I'm like a chamelon. I react to others on how they act towards me. Say someone is being mean and nasty I'm all sarcastic and bitchy but if it's the opposite I act very shy and mellow. I prefer someone who pushes me right back I don't mind, soft and sweet but like you I tend to snark or become sarcastic when it isn't warrented.
ext_18428: (tea)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. I'll definitely agree with you on the women over the men - much as I love Marcus, Ivanova will always be first in my heart. ;)

I'm with you on the chameleon thing, as well. Unfortunately, it often means problems when it comes to figuring out how and who the hell I really am. Frustrating, that.

And I hate to be an attention-whore, but if you haven't seen it yet, I wrote you a little something. :D (http://rivendellrose.livejournal.com/447673.html#cutid1)

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Defintely the women were the best part of the show. Delenn, Ivanova, Na'Toth, Talia, Lyta...Oh G'Kar and Londo too. I know their not women but they were wonderfully squishable and woobie...ful? XD

God, your not kidding. I can hardly figure out who I am when I'm alone, how the hell can I figure it out when I'm in a room full of people adapting my personality or whatever to them? So frustrating.

Ooooh! I posted there when I got this reply. Basically I loved it. XD
ext_18428: (not paid enough)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
G'Kar and Londo, too, certainly. I love those guys.

Exactly. At the risk of sounding either horribly arrogant or just plain insane, I think that's why I do well as a writer and an actress - I'm almost always playing a part to one degree or another anyway, so it's not difficult for me to slip into another. There's a great quote to that effect about writers... but I can't remember it right now. :P

Yay!

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No I can see what your saying and it doesn't sound like that. I think with our personalities (or at least mine) anything creative or artistic comes very naturally to me. I hope that doesn't sound snobby? Because I'm horrible at math I just don't have a structured mind that it takes to deal with numbers, but writing down plotlines or a storyboard and keeping all the character's history etc. down is very easy for me. So is a lot of the artsy stuff like pottery etc.

I once wanted to be art historian in fact I was all set to apply at my local university but something came up and I couldn't.

Anyway I think that my personality just does better in a artistic field. So yeah that was just a really long 'word'. XD
ext_18428: (interesting times)

[identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Same deal - well, not necessarily easy, but it's the most natural to me. Words are easiest for me, but I like drawing, painting, calligraphy, sewing... all that kind of stuff.

Always time for it later - believe me, lots of people take the evening degrees and stuff much later in life than us. And if it's what you want to do, it's always worth it to do whatever it takes to make it work.

...Says the girl working an office job. :P But I have to pay off my current school debts before I go about making new ones. Next year it's into an evening certification program with me. XD

[identity profile] oszras.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I tried sewing once, actually I think it was cross stitching I liked it but it was hard on my fingers.

That is true where I'm at know they don't have many night schools but I just have to get the time. Right now I'm looking for a second job so it will be awhile for me. I would like to go back to school though. Life does not make it easy but I figure I will just have to make time.
