i live!
I made it, I live, and I'm sooooo tired.
It's 8:30 here in Japan, but as far as my brain is concerned, it's 4:30 in the morning... which means I've been awake for 23.5 hours, not counting a few naps on the plane today. But we got in, figured out the trains after a bit of wandering and confusion, found the hostel after a bit MORE wandering and confusion, and even eventually found dinner after a LOT more wandering and confusion, and with the bonus of a lot of mute pointing and other slightly frantic attempts to communicate with the nice restaurant staff, none of whom spoke more than a few words of English.
The hostel has maps showing recommended restaurants and things... but the maps are either really out of date, or completely impossible to follow, so... we ended up wandering until we just gave up and picked one based on pretty much nothing but "it looks nice, but not too nice." We picked our food based on pointing at one of the 5 items that were pictured in the menu, and having a conversation with the waiter in which he talked to us in Japanese and a few words of English, and we talked to him in a little English and a lot of pointing, and everybody smiled a lot and made a lot of "uhh... yes, yes" kinds of noises.
I've actually hit the point of exhaustion where I feel light-headed and a little dizzy (not to mention totally brain-dead), but I'm now "allowed" to go to sleep until 9, so that I can start acclimating.
Oh, and the toilet here in the hostel is one of the weird ones with tons of buttons. Took me a few minutes to realize that there was still a normal flush, rather than some arcane button combination.
Can't think of anything else particularly sane to say. Tomorrow the theory is to do some low-key touristing... and hopefully figure out the significance of the pocketful of various coins I've got? I have absolutely no clue how much any of them are worth. The paper money's easy... but as soon as any of that gets broken, I'm totally lost. :P It's possible there are numbers on them... I'll have to check that tomorrow. For now, I'm too damned tired.
There's drumming outside right now. I'm not sure why, but I'm fairly certain (thank everything good in the world) that once it's time for me to sleep, even this won't keep me awake. At least I really hope it won't.
I had a whole post written up in a text doc about my flight, but it seems rather pointless now, and besides, I'm too lazy to go dig it up.

it! Maybe you can "dig up" the flight post after you've rested. I would love to hear about it! Sleep well!

And yes, I feel much better after a night's sleep!
