Got home from work last night about 11:30--the sorority chicks I was babysitting disappeared from the room a few hours before expected, but I stuck around until about eleven in case they came back, until one of my co-workers told me he'd lock up and I could leave. Mom had been visiting--company in the booth is a nice thing on a night like last night--so she drove me home.

I was barely home five minutes before Josie and her friends came home and asked me if I wanted to go with them to an almost-free (40 cent) midnight showing of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Hmmm.... Johnny Depp acting all sorts of weird drug trips.... sure, why not? I ate a handful of chocolate-covered espresso beans, and took a little box of berry gummies with me for during the movie. I like having something to munch on during movies--it keeps me from longing for popcorn.

This is a very weird movie. Most prominent thoughts throughout: 1) My god--is Johnny Depp really doing that voice? 2) I can't understand what any of them are saying! 3)Hmm... it doesn't seem to matter too much. 4) Oh--so *that's* where the limp-wristed Jack Sparrow thing came from! (No--seriously. You wanna see the artistic beginnings of all those drunken-pirate gestures? Go rent this movie!) 5) He can actually stagger even *worse* than in Pirates. o.O A *lot* worse, in fact. 6) Somehow, even when playing a drugged up asshole with a horseshoe hairline, ugly shirts, and a cigarette holder constantly hanging from his lips... the man is not entirely unattractive. It horrifies me. It should not happen--shouldn't even be possible. And certainly the amazing bizarreness and conniving bastardness of the role is the more prominent factor. But... yeah.

Also, leaving a movie like that and walking out onto Broadway at 2:30 AM is something of a surreal experience. One gets the sense that the movie never really ended... it just changed locales and set itself on a darker, less glitzy and more gritty tone than Vegas.

I think, with all the scenes set in the Circus casino, I am beginning to *develop* a fear of clowns. I mean, I've never *liked* them.... but now they're starting to creep me out.

Also, is there some sort of strange cosmic bond between Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci? Or were they formerly engaged or something? They seem to be in a lot of movies together. Although this time the most interaction *they* had (as opposed to Christina Ricci and Benicio del Torro (forgive me--I know I've mangled his name, but I don't have time to look up proper spelling right now)) was him trying to convince Benecio's character to pimp her out.

Next... I think it's probably high time I watch "Lost in La Mancha." After all I've heard of it, I'm quite intrigued.
