Bleh. Overslept. Don't know why I bother to report that, anymore.
Yesterday,
nekokoban,
zinjadu,
sigelphoenix, Kendra and I all went out to Buffalo Exchange to shop for costume bits for the Serenity premiere. This is my kind of costuming, since it's stuff I can wear at a later (or earlier!) date as parts of my regular wardrobe. And it was an excuse to buy one of the flouncy skirts I've wanted for a really long time!
The real winner of the day was
sigelphoenix, who basically stumbled right onto her whole costume in the form of a beautiful blue and gold satin robe with Chinese dragon patterns, a gold satin skirt, and a light blue satin tank top that combine together to look exactly like something Inara would wear. We also managed to find
nekokoban a perfect shirt and pair of khaki cargo pants for her Kaylee costume, and I ended up with a lovely dull-orange flounced knee-length skirt. No sweater, so far, because everything that fit what I wanted turned out to be not quite right or too expensive (or both), but I expect a trip to a Value Village will fix that. And we've got two months to get ready, anyway. ;)
I'm so much looking forward to this little outing - I love dressing up in costumes, and helping people with their hair and makeup. I've been plotting the makeup plans for our whole group, which has been really really amusing. River's going to be the real trick, but I've got a fair idea of how I'll be doing it. It's a pity that it's no easier to get a job in makeup than it is in acting - makeup artistry was always my first love in the theater, and it still makes me completely giddy to work in it.
