and we're back

We got back from Whidbey Island early this evening, after making use of our rental car to pick up the week's groceries, and were promptly informed by the cats that they didn't care how our weekend had been because they had, torment of tortures, gone without wet food for a whole two and a half days and had eaten all the dry food we left them. Greedy little beasties. So we fed them, and eventually ordered pitas for ourselves, and caught up on line... and now The Boy is tucked up in bed with a fuzzy head and stomach ache that I hope will turn out to just be too much travel with a possible side of strange food over the weekend, and not that we picked up a bug or managed to give ourselves food poisoning with the carpet picnic of cheese, bread, and olives that we had for dinner last night.

The B&B we stayed at was very nice, if not as totally awesome and friendly as the one we stayed at last year on Friday Harbor, and we managed to make some nice finds at the antique stores (nothing for me - The Boy found a lovely old type-setting... er... set, that appealed to his graphic design sensibilities, and a nested lacquered box for his mom's birthday. I... lusted after furniture we have no room for, and for a long time considered a lovely old wooden doctor's box with drawers and a beautiful door that I thought might work for my jewelry, but decide that I should probably wait and find something more sensible (and less expensive). Highlights of the weekend were beach-walking, hiking up around Deception Pass, a few very lovely wine-tastings (we seem to be collecting wine, through no conscious choice of our own), and a blow-your-own-glass adventure with one of the glassblowers in town. We both made paperweights, which will be getting shipped to us since they had to cool overnight and we only made them this morning.

Nice, quiet weekend. I wish it had been longer, but isn't that always the case with long weekends?
