Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] miss_arel!!! ♥

I hope your test goes well and that you find all kinds of fun ways to spoil yourself for the rest of the day!

Also, darn it, I had about a page written on the first of my fics for [livejournal.com profile] 3measures as of last night, but somehow it didn't get saved onto my thumb-drive. I hope that means it's not totally disappeared... I really liked some of what I'd come up with. :P

And lastly, for the sake of feeling accomplished, my ongoing list of books I've read, having begun on 3/13 of this year:

Equal Rites, Terry Pratchett
The Telling, Ursula K. Le Guin
Going Postal, Terry Pratchett
Guards! Guards!, Terry Pratchett
Men at Arms, Terry Pratchett
Daily Life in Civil War America
Joys of Motherhood, Buchi Emecheta
Stiff, Mary Roach
And a Time to Die, (can't remember off-hand)
Just Add Hormones, (also can't recall atm)
Second-Class Citizen, Buchi Emecheta

The problem I've had with thumb drives is that if you save onto them, and then don't follow the full eject sequence instead of just pulling it out of the USB port, whatever you last saved onto it sometimes doesn't fully save. It's usually not a problem if you give it time to process, or eject it properly.

Wasn't Stiff fascinating?

Also, Pratchett love.

I remember going through the process of stopping the drive, so I think what happened was that I got confused about an accidental double-copy of the document that'd ended up on my desktop. I'm just hoping that doesn't mean that I saved right over the longer version...

It really was - Roach is such a amazing, funny writer, and she handles the subject of corpses with the perfect sort of attitude.

Oh yes. So much Pratchett love. XD

Her articles at Salon.com. (http://archive.salon.com/directory/topics/mary_roach/) I'm in an expository writing class right now, totally separate from the class I read Stiff for, so now I've kind of latched onto Mary Roach as one of my writing heroes. ;)

Are all her writings about similar topics?

I know that someone on your flist said that the look on River's face in that icon said something about Tiramisu to them, but to me, it totally looks like she's saying "I'll cut you Bitch!"

...

I'll add that to the list of things that are disturbing to be heard (or seen) from one's mother.

For the record, I've always thought it looked like she was saying "ooo!" Clearly, I'm not very creative.

I should add, off of my prior comment - that line is now on the list just above Loretta's infamous comment about the "bling" on the front of my sweatshirt. You know, the one with the little fake rhinestones on the zipper.

White middle-class women of a motherly age just aren't supposed to say "bling" in my mind. I guess I'm weird like that. ;)

Why is that disturbing? She's just got an attitude in that picture I think.

Loretta said bling??? That's so cute!

I just don't think she looks sweet in that picture, I think she looks like she's telling someone off big time.

It's actually from a little bit in "Shindig" when she's teasing/subtly putting-down Badger while pretending to be a girl from his home colony. I don't know about sweet, it just looks like a "ooooooooo" kind of face to me. I don't get 'angry' of it at all. *Shrugs*

For the same reason Loretta saying 'bling' is disturbing. It's just not a way of speaking that I associate with people who aren't my age or younger.

Maybe you don't see it because you know the context of the picture.
Or maybe I'm just a freak.
