Fall Orientation Training
Sep. 24th, 2003 04:35 pmA month ago, when my work had died to nearly nothing and moving-day seemed an eternity away, volunteering for freshman orientation seemed like a great idea. Now, with jobs to work, modding an RPG to deal with, and packing/moving to be done, I feel like a total moron for thinking I could do this.
Training today wasn't too bad, even though the people running it probably could have cut the five hours down to three if they'd not repeated themselves so damned much. They fed us pizza, at least. The staff t-shirt is too big (what a surprise...) and the university planners they gave us all are lovely... too bad I already bought one from the U-Bookstore. I'll have to see if anybody needs a planner...
Tomorrow, I work set-up from 8-10am, then have a break for two hours, then work the information book until 3:30, when I go to have a meeting at Hec Ed, and then on to set up and some last minute training before the big meeting thing. After the meeting, I get a group of 20-50 students who I'm supposed to lead through a pizza dinner and a getting-to-know-you, talking about the upcoming orientation process kind of thing. Yeeeeep. And Wheeeee. And many other conflicting feelings. That'll go until 8pm.
I just hope they don't hate me. Please, oh please, let me get over my paralyzing fear of highschool students and not make a total fool of myself tomorrow night.
Then, at 8pm, I will finally be able to come home. I have the option to stay and participate in some of the activities (including watching some strange movie called Lord of the Rings: The Twin Towers...... *Sighs* God, my school is stupid sometimes).... but I'd rather get home as early as possible.
Packing has begun. I'm beginning to remember exactly how much time it takes. Good thing I have until Friday... although I also have some more orientation stuff on Friday, and I still don't know when my dad is coming to take stuff over.
This is going to be interesting, anyway.
