Oh god. I've heard this from others, too, yes. Never been, myself, and we stuck to mass transit in Tokyo due to it being easy and neither of us speaking the language, but... yeeeeeeeeeeah, I think genuine terror would probably be my reaction to cabs (or, in fact, streets, from what I've heard) in China.
