Job-hunt today went badly. Very badly.

Nobody wants to hire someone who's going back to school in 2 months, and I, not thinking of this, did indeed put that I'm going to school in the fall on my applications. I also have a hard time directly lying to people when they ask me questions.

Also today were a couple of "we're not hiring right now"s, including one from the vet clinic I was really hoping on, and one "oh, sorry, we filled all our positions." *dies* Oh, yeah, and checking back on the other vet clinic I got a very determined "we definitely need someone who can stay the whole year." Well fine, bitch - that's probably why you still haven't found anyone.

I have a few options still out there, and I'm pretty much ready to lie through my teeth on any other options that come up. Failing that, I'm going to just start taking short-notice jobs from my regular job, if they'll let me, and then find a second job closer to campus for during the year.

I hope it gets better, because looking for short-term work just sucks. I know you're a sincere and wonderful person, but please consider lying. Figure it this way -- some job will get two months of earnest, hardworking Jen, rather than some slackass layabout they have to fire after two months anyway.

Yeah, my problem is that it only occurred to me just how fuckered I was if I told the truth after turning in my last batch of applications. So I'll just have to start again with the next places I apply. *sighs*

Hehehe ... being a seasoned liar myself, I recommend it. It's a great tool to get ahead, but keep it simple. Don't rehearse it TOO much, as then it will sound scripted, but you don't want to be caught off guard.

P.S. She said that 'ouille' was a slang sound for pain, as in 'OUCHIE MAMA' or 'OW'.

I'm good at... er... misdirection. And I would probably be good at lying, too - I'm a good actress and pretty skilled at thinking on my feet most of the time. There's something about the job hunt that just makes it hard, though.

Yup, okay, that definitely makes sense. Thanks for asking for me, and please thank her, as well!

I feel your pain. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering day labor and freelance writing to fill up my empty bank account in the meantime.

Day labor, sadly, is not much of an option as I am a huge weenie and can't do much (read: hardly any) physical labor. Freelance writing... fuck, I wish I could find some of that.

Hrm... you're an artist type. Can you write for a 12-18 age range? N2Arts.com is one of the possibilities I was looking at. They want 350-600 word articles on all the various arts (writing, theatre, dance, you name it), pay is a $0.05/word honorarium, but hey, every little bit helps. You should check it out.

There are a couple websites that list freelance markets that I've found.

You should take a peak through them. That top one had an interesting one... international bus travel tales. I really want to find somebody I can pass that one along to. It sounds like a really fun anthology.
