For crying out loud, Seattle. Do you suppose I could perhaps not hear this kind of insane shit about my city? By which I mean that I don't want it to happen at all! Please?
And for the local take on it... Apparently the driver thinks "I panicked" is a good excuse for ramming into a bunch of bicyclists. Um, no. That's a good reason you should not be driving. I'm not saying that some of the bicyclists weren't asshats as well - they attacked the car, for god's sake. But if one person is in a car and a bunch of other people are on bikes, the person in the car should not be the one who can they felt "threatened."
I particularly like this part - "Behind the wheel of a Subaru station wagon, the driver struck several bicyclists as he attempted to flee from protesters."
...Fleeing. In a car. From bikes. I'm sure.
Here's the original article from the Seattle P.I. Oh, and local folks - if anybody has more and/or different details on this thing, I'd love to hear them. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's up with all of this, and having found it first on fricking OTF_Wank... yeah. That makes it a bit tough to get the facts straight. Oh, and trying to turn this into either an issue of gay rights or eco-terrorism, as someone linked on OTF_Wank was trying to do? Is just completely ludicrous from what I've seen so far. It's not. As near as I can tell, it's about a whole bunch of people being stupid in numerous ways, and the person in the car being the biggest idiot of all.
Clarification: I'm not at all trying to say that the bicyclists aren't also being asshats here - it looks to me like everybody involved was a complete idiot and ought to have be restricted from the streets for the safety of the rest of us. But I think the overall flow of opinion seems to be going light on the car, which somewhat annoys me. Under no normal circumstance is it okay to smash somebody's windows, certainly. But... it's also not okay for someone in a car to ram people on bikes. Both groups were really stupid, reckless, and violent here.
