The Grand Illusion cinema in Seattle's University District is an awesome little art-house and indie type theater (and, it turns out, Seattle's oldest continually-running theater)
and it's having some financial problems, and needs help. This may sound odd coming from someone who is about as
not a 'real' film buff as I am (I tend toward big action movies and comforting classics, rarely go in for artsy indie flicks, and, unless
Moon went, I have probably
never seen something that was at Sundance or any of the other meccas of art cinematography), but I have a really deep love for the little theaters that survive in Seattle, and I'd hate to see the Grand Illusion close down just because all the kids are going out to the big, boring new multiplexes out in the suburbs instead of watching movies at all the awesome theaters we have in the city. The Grand Illusion in particular does a great job of showing really eclectic mixes of things (seriously, check out the list of upcoming movies on their website - it's nuts. I wish we weren't busy the last weekend of this month, because I'd love to see the collection of weird odds and ends they're playing at late-night then!), and it's a non-profit, volunteer-run gig, too. I hope they can make it.
