Blargh. Here I am, trying to figure out what the 'narrative function' of all these different races is, and you know what? All I fucking want to do is just reread the damned books. That's it! That's all I want!
Eeeeeaaaaaaaagh. I'm so sick of trying to analyze this stuff.
Also, why the fuck does Aragorn talk about himself in the third person when he's referring to himself as Strider? It's really kind of creepy. "Strider will do thus-and-such." Yes, thank you Aragorn - you do realize that's you, right?? Some future king of men....
If I see the word "lo!" or "behold!" one more time, I don't know what I'll do. Well... suspect I'll just growl and eat chocolate or something, but... for all that's holy, I swear he used it five times in a few pages, during the Battle of Pelennor Field!
Current page count: 12. V. good.
Still haven't written Ents or Orcs and Uruk-Hai, still not finished with Men or Elves. Still no idea what I'm saying about Dwarves, aside from the bit about "overweening creative arrogance" as re: Aule, and the Mines of Moria. Yes, really did use "overweening" in a sentence. Still no idea exactly what the full purpose of the Dead is in the narrative, although came up with some rather cool interpretations of specific incidents, leading to further fangirling of Aragorn. Even if he does seem to have multiple personalities.
Still not king.

Date: 2005-05-23 08:00 am (UTC)It is so very us, yes. And I am so fecking sick of trying to write this paper it isn't even funny. My nose is stuffed, I can't figure out what the hell to say about a bunch of stuff, and everything seems so disorganized I can't follow my own train of thought. Blargh. I'm thinking it'll look better if I can just wake up, or sleep and deal with it tomorrow. Bleh. One way or the other.

Date: 2005-05-23 08:47 am (UTC)Yeah, I know, we broke your poor little Curlew-restricted brain. Bad us. But you liked it! You know you did!
...Aside maybe from the part where it totally messed up the movies for you. But hey, misery loves company on that front. *g*

Date: 2005-05-23 06:29 pm (UTC)Hmmm, and that also serves as a good reminder that I really need to read some Whitman again - haven't read any of his stuff since highschool, really. I'll have to add him to my summer reading list!
