I just had to break into my own house. Nothing damaged, but it was still quite interesting.
About half an hour ago, there were TONS of people in our living room. Then Sean, Terra, and Dora went out to Uwajimiya's for a grocery run, and I went outside to walk Erin to her car and do a bit of weeding in the front garden on the way. Charlie and his friend Sienna were leaving, too. We said goodbye to them, then to each other, then I threw away some weeds, went up to the door... and realized that Charlie had locked it on the way out.
So there I am - no keys, no wallet, no cellphone, no jacket, and no chance of the roommates getting home in less than... oh, say three hours. Mom would be by before then, probably about 2, but... that was still two hours away, and would only get me a distraction, not back inside the house. I walked circles around the house, checking every window. Naturally, all the large and low ones are latched. But (blessedly) someone had left the high, thin little bathroom window open a crack. I try piling a few cinder blocks, but it's still too low for me to grab the ledge, let alone pull myself up. I briefly consider the bungee cord that holds our gate closed and wonder how much weight it'll hold, and whether I can pull myself up to the window with it... and then discard that notion.
In the end, I sheepishly begged a ladder off the very nice man who lives next door to us, and discovered that, yes, I really can squeeze myself in through our bathroom window, and that it's just high enough that I can step out onto the edge of the bathtub.
I'm never going outside without my keys in my pocket EVER AGAIN.
