typical day, of a sort
Jul. 11th, 2003 04:42 pmHad a generally very nice day today so far, made especially nice by the fact that I only worked until eleven (and, thus, didn't BAKE on the walk home, as I usually do). Apparently we operators will be drafted next week for help moving the office to its temporary location down the hall... I'm enthused, as this means a few more hours of work at a pretty low cost, most likely. With luck, I'll just be carrying files or something.
Wore my boots again today, and was quite happy that with stockings and thin socks they are *quite* comfy. They're still a bit stiff at the ankles when I'm walking up or down stairs, but that's tolerable. Entirely worth it for how they look. Although it tweaks me a bit when somebody (particularly Emily from McCarty, for reasons Cora will understand) says "I don't think I'd have the balls to wear boots like that." Ermm... I'm sorry? I dunno... what do you *say* to something like that?
In other news, I got lost trying to go to the laundromat today, carrying my massive bag of laundry, and my backpack with my laundry soap, book, and water-bottle. Turns out that it's in the opposite direction I thought it was... and yes, I *have* managed to live in this house for nearly a month without doing my laundry. I can't decide whether this ought to be impressive or horrifying... But it's getting done this weekend. So don't worry. But by the time I realized my mistake (ok, fine--asked for directions), I also realized that if I hauled my stuff all the way up to the place, I'd probably pass out before actually getting there. Sun and heat aren't my best friends.
Cassie's new story continues to warp my mind. By the time I'd finished this most recent chapter, my eyes were burning, I had a lump in my throat, and my stomach was slightly nauseous. It's not graphic (yet), it's just really, really disturbing. I'm starting to wonder what it's going to be like by the time the next chapter is out.... eep.
And, on the note of fanfic, many thanks to LadySonnet, who sent me one of my favorite translations of fic terminology, from the Bagenders page. The Horrifically Honest Guide to Fanfiction Terms
Explanation #2 of "shipper" continues to make me laugh (not to mention mutter "shipper" under my breath in my best attempt at Sean Connery-speak) every time I read it. And their explanation of "squick" is probably a lot more savory than that which I had to give my poor mother... although Gimli pole-dancing is a truly pernicious mental image.
