o the prettiness......
Jul. 13th, 2003 06:09 pmI actually saw four movies within a little over 24 hours this weekend. Yesterday, I went with Tiff and saw League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (fun, but not particularly extraordinary), then we came home and watched A Knight's Tale (so cute! although the costuming made me want to strangle people sometimes--less because it was SO not period but more simply because it was ridiculous in some cases) on VHS, and then Dogma (because she'd never seen all of it).
Then, today, my mom took Tiff and I to see Pirates of the Carribean. Oh. My. God. I LOVED that movie. Wow was it fun. Johnny Depp.... well, I could gush all day about how amazing he is, how sexy, how delightfully wacky, how amazingly adorable he is. No other man could pull off dredlocks, braided beard, kohled eyes, and a permanently-drunken, sashaying sort of body-language even close to that well. At least not while making it *attractive*. Hell, I'm still appalled that he could do it, and he's one of the most versatile actors I can think of. The man is amazing... and gorgeous to boot. What could be better? And, of course, Orlando Bloom pulled off his usual, stunningly gorgeous, earnest, every-thought-across-his-face sort of performance. I love watching emotions cross his features--that man emotes like no one else, probably because his features are so frigging perfect as to be nearly inhuman.
Altogether a kickass movie, with great special effects, delightful comic moments, and two amazingly wonderful leads, as well as Geoffrey Rush as his usual wonderful self, playing the villainous pirate captain. I recommend it whole-heartedly, and will happily accompany anyone who wants to see it. ;) Many thanks to Mom and Tiff for lots of fun time spent together this weekend.

A Knight's Tale

Date: 2003-07-13 07:42 pm (UTC)The sense that I get from what I've read about the Canterbury Tales compared to what I saw in the movie is that there's a lot of *references* to the tales. Geoffrey Chaucer is a character in the movie, and comments a time or two about making some people they've met live in infamy through his writings.

*is appalled by the thought that everyone hasn't already seen Dogma*
*also recommends Chasing Amy of the Kevin smith movies*
*isn't a big kevin smith fan, really*
