an uncommon feeling of history

We've been cleaning the office today, and we found two portfolios of papers from the early incarnations of our department, some as early as 1938. Memos, job descriptions, a certificate from the state senate, photographs... it's amazing.

It's especially weird to remember that my grandma on my dad's side worked in the office of the president of the university, while my grandpa was a law student. Completely bizarre.

I would be having joyful spasms. I am obsessed with history. Any chance I get to get close to it drives me absolutely bonkers. I geek out like a maniac. So give those papers a pat for me, yea?

Me too - especially for old papers, for some reason. Books, photographs, postcards... I love it.

I gave them many a pat from me, but the next time I see them I'll be sure to do the same for you. There's some talk of making .pdf files of them available on our department webpage, and if that happens I'll be sure to let you know!
