crazy days
Sep. 28th, 2005 09:01 amSoooo... the last few days have been kinda crazy.
Monday night I went with the usual suspects to see Terry Pratchett speak in Kane Hall. Fabulously funny man, really good storyteller, and he was extraordinarily patient with the very long line of people who wanted his autograph. I had him sign my Pocket Muse book, and he was quite amused by it, taking a look at what it was and commenting that the prompt on the page I'd given him (something to do with writing about the absence of a sound) was a good subject, because silence has such texture. I was quite pleased.
Then, last night was the long-awaited Serenity showing. I won't go into details on the process (although I will say that there was a terrifying moment when we thought we weren't all going to get in because of a mix-up with the lists), but WE MADE IT!! We were on the press list for Serenity, we were among the first twenty-or-so people seated,
chasdini (in his very cunning hat) led a theater-wide sing-along of The Ballad of Jayne, and our own
miss_arel led the theater in singing The Ballad of Serenity just before the movie began.
There was only one trailer attached - Doom, with the Rock and Karl Urban. Poor Karl - he clearly has a mortgage payment due or something. *Snickers*
And then... the Big Damn Movie.
I'm holding off on my actual review until everyone's had a chance to see it, but... ohmigod. Let me tell you, it one seriously wild ride, from start to finish. It's fast-paced, very tense, very shocking, and very true to both the series and the characters. Everyone did a fabulous job, and the special effects, I thought, were to die for. And the dialogue. Oh, the dialogue.
My one warning is that this is very much not TV show - there is violence, and it's not just the off-screen or quick-and-finished kind of violence you see on TV. Bad things happen. Icky things are shown. It wasn't too much for me (and you all know I'm sensitive to gore), but it was... a bit disturbing, in parts. Fair warning.
And Joss Whedon is evil. Totally fucking EVIL.
Until Friday, everyone, just remember... can't stop the signal.

![]() | You scored as Inara Serra. The Courtesan. You have a job that brings comfort to people and eases their burdens. It took years of training and dedication to perfect. So why do people keep calling you a whore? You tried to get away from those people, but something keeps bringing you back.

I remember looking up release dates in other countries, but for some reason I thought you folks were in with France (which was what I was looking up, for a friend who's in Brittany right now). Bleck! I'll be doubly sure to be careful that all my spoilers stay in cuts, until I know it's released over there, there's a lot of stuff you really want to be surprised by!
