I need "GIMP for Dummies." Or possibly "The Complete Idiot's Guide to GIMP."

No, the Help files are not really Help!ful. *Snarls*

I know it's fucking possible. I know everything I want to do is possible. I just can't figure out how to make any of it actually work, because I don't know how to tell it to do whatever it is I want. It's like being dropped in Taiwan without a dictionary, or something.

Also, this little fit of GIMP-attempt just ate up my writing time. And all I really accomplished was figuring out how to open the stupid dialogue boxes I somehow lost way back when I started using the program. Curses!!!

I'm trying to make a wallpaper at the moment, but really it's just that I'm trying to learn to use the program. And it's a steep learning curve. But every time I use it, I really do pick up something new, so I know progress is being made. Just slowly, so I get frustrated.

Gimp is really, really hard. Have you ever played with paint shop pro? It has a full trial version and it's really easy to use.

Haven't tried paint shop pro... hmm. Maybe I'll test out the trial. I'd assumed that all the complex graphics programs would be about equally difficult, but if there's a freeware/trial that's easier I'd be all over it.

Let's see. Umm, I'm free after 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 3:30 on Fridays.

I'm free from 3:30 to 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but then I've got a class, so that's probably not the best choice. I'm free on Fridays after 3:30, too, though - how about we shoot for that?

Hell, we could just pop together tomorrow? I can't take too long at it 'cause I have grocery shopping and a take-home midterm, but it'd be nice to hang out for a bit and talk writing.

Hey, sorry I didn't get in touch with you yesterday. I ended up writing a paper I forgot about in a couple of hours and didn't have a chance to check my email. I got home and went to bed until about 11 pm, got up, ate something, had a beer, and went back to bed. It was a refreshing Friday night.

No problem, I ended up not feeling too fabulous, anyway, so I just did my errands, went home, and tried to get some work done. Next Friday I've got plans with some folks, since it's a holiday, but let's try for the Friday after that, maybe?

I keep trying, giving up, trying again, giving up again... and each time I try, I learn something new. So I figure I'm making progress in my slow, back-pedaling sort of way.

Is GIMP a really great program, or is there something out there that is more user friendly?

From what I've heard, GIMP is about as user-friendly as any graphics program of its caliber - which is to say I'd have the same problems learning just about any advanced graphics program, and since I've already figured out how to do some stuff with the Gimp... I figure I might as well keep at it.
