superdickery
Nov. 27th, 2005 04:31 pmI keep forgetting to link to this, but procrastination is great for getting me to do things I otherwise neglect!
Here it is, folks - Superdickery.com, home of a zillion and one covers and frames from the old comics, brought together to prove that Superman... is a dick. Also contains all sorts of fun old comics featuring propaganda, really stupid 'super' powers, and more (presumably unintentional) innuendoes than you can shake a stick at.
Examples?
"Robin - What have I done to you??"
The infamous "slap a Jap" campaign.
Let's just hope this villain doesn't make it into the screenplay, shall we?
And since I was already in the Wonder Woman gallery... umm... yeah.
Yup... he's a dick, alright.
Edit How could I have forgotten? In which Batman and Superman make Robin and Jimmy dig their own graves.

I did a paper on Dickinson during WWII and there was some really offensive "humor" in the school paper from the time. I cringed, I really did.

Date: 2005-11-29 05:33 pm (UTC)Speaking of Superman, though, have you seen the preview for the new Superman movie? Looks pretty awesome - it might end up being what Smallville should have been! Hooray!

Date: 2005-12-07 06:36 pm (UTC)No, I haven't! I don't watch TV (literally - we have a TV entirely for video games and DVDs, but no cable and not even a pair of rabbit ears), so I miss out on a lot of previews unless someone points me their way and I seek them out, or see them in the theater. In general, I'm a Batman or X-Men kind of girl, but I'm more than willing to see how they're playing up Superman this time!

Date: 2005-12-08 01:13 am (UTC)I saw the preview in the theater - I don't know if it's on TV yet. No time to watch TV in college (although I think I might be making a regular exception for "House"), and no cable of any sort at home, what with living between mountains in the middle of Idaho. I did use to watch TV when we had it in CT, before I went to college, and I watched Smallville for, like, half a season, but it got so annoying, I had to stop. The guy is 6'5", looks about thirty, and yet is supposed to be fourteen? And NO ONE realizes he's an alien? Also, Mr. and Mrs. Kent made me want to go Lex Luther on their asses. Yay, movie, though! (I hope.)
