Look at that handsome kitty!

With much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] narsilion and her new digicam, here's

And lest you think him an entirely dignified and noble beast....

I expect more will come as I edit and crop them - I'm hoping to make an icon, eventually. ;)

He was kind of doing the "heeeeeey... what's Grandma got?" thing in that picture, but he does have very big eyes. Helps with looking innocent when he does bad things.

*Has added a picture that's a bit more indicative of his usual personality* ;)

He's a bit of a devil sometimes, but he is indeed a pretty one. Awwww, and the kitties in your icons are so gorgeous! That one looks a bit like the cat I grew up with.

That's Ezra, my other purrbaby. Both he and Spooky came from the same no-kill shelter in Tucson. Ezra had been there for three years because he was very shy and skittish, which made him less adoptable. Most people want a friendly lapslut. My previous cat had been a shy lad as well, so that didn't bother me at all.

The problem was, Ezra had grown up in the shelter with 400 other cats. Aside from being shy and scared in his new surroundings, he was also desperately lonely. So, I went back to the shelter and found Spooky, who was a five month old ball of black fluff. Or, rather, he found me by climbing into my lap and going to sleep.

He and Ezra have been inseparable ever since. If you look closely at the icon, you can see part of Spooky's ear next to Ezra's. It's hard to see because he kinda blends in with my fake mink throw. *G*

Awwwww, that's wonderful! I'm so glad they're friends. And it's so good that you were able to give Ezra the kind of home he deserves - he looks so content and zen, now! It's such a relief to hear the success stories, especially out of a no-kill shelter.

I feel a bit guilty sometimes, because I really did end up with the lapslut kind of cat - my excuse is that, like Spooky did for you, he chose me. Reached right up and grabbed my arm as I walked into the room. ;)

I do see Spooky, now that you mention it - he really does blend right in! What cuties!

In the first two months, I never saw more of Ezra than his tail as it disappeared under the bed, which was how he got his nickname of Mr Invisible. The Hermitage staff actually offered to let me bring him back and swap him for a more affectionate cat. I politely declined on the grounds that 1) he was a living, breathing critter, not a defective toy and 2) I had made a commitment to rehabilitate this animal, and knew it would take time and patience.

The Hermitage director said, "I wish more people thought like you."

Ezra will never be a lapslut like the Spookster, but in the two years since I brought him home, he's relaxed enough to sleep on the bed with me, and beg for pettins and skritches.

More people should think like you.

My cats growing up were all rescues (they found us, rather than the other way around), and they all definitely had their... quirks. My oldest was a grumpy old bastard who merely tolerated anyone other than my dad and I, and the most affectionate he ever got was rubbing up a bit or snuggling next to us to take a nap. Another literally brain-damaged, and had the cat version of a bipolar personality. Happy as a clam one second, biting and scratching the next, with no real event in between. Our third eventually had to be made a mostly-outdoor cat because she couldn't be cured of peeing on things. She had a little house to stay warm and safe, and could come in whenever she was good, but my dad wasn't quite willing to tolerate the peeing, normally.

Honestly, I've known more cats who were less than lapsluts than are. Even Theo is more of the next-to-you kind of cat than wherever-you-want-him-to-be. Ezra sounds very nice and well adjusted, especially for all he's been through.

Hey, he's lost a bit of weight! But yeah, he's a chubby butt.

You missed him doing his "hula dance" impression against the wall in Jessi's room. He looooooves to lay with his butt to the heat vent. And he got into the fireplace again today. I got home, took one look at his feet... and the bottoms of his front paws were all sooty. Nosy little brat. :P

Theo's the same way with guests. And half the time he's at least partly right - most of our friends think he's amusing as all heck, so they cater to him. Too bad one of the ones he's especially obsessed with is allergic to cats. ;)

Heheh, cats are funny. And I think they have a special radar for people with allergies. My grandmother's cats never liked me as much as they liked my brother. Poor baby, and he puffs up after less than 30 minutes around a cat.

Animals are funny that way.

He's my cutie-bug, that's for sure. The eyes look a bit bigger than usual in that picture because he's sort of leaning up to look at the camera, but yeah.... he does have pretty big eyes, I guess!
