I had a meeting tonight for the editorial committee of the Senior Gift Council (don't I sound all cool and pretentious, saying that? :P) at 5:30 tonight, so since I had an hour and a half to kill after the end of class, I had dinner at one of the Thai places on the Ave, and then dropped by a used CD place that [livejournal.com profile] ratzeo had told me was having a sale.

I made out like a total bandit. :D

Two Lilith Fair albums (one of them a two-disc set), reduced on top of the sale price because they'd gotten water damage to the booklets - the CDs themselves are perfect. Who cares about the booklets? Also, Sarah Mclachlan's "The Freedom Sessions," and one CD each by the Indigo Girls and Sheila Chandra. *Squee*

I'm going back tomorrow to double-check to make sure there's nothing else I want - this is a reeeeeally good sale.

Yes! *Is thrilled* And "The Freedom Sessions" is done in a totally different style than her usual stuff, so I'm fascinated all over again. XD

Which CD place is this? I may have to check it out...

And I LOVE "Freedom Sessions"! It's my favorite Sarah McLachlan CD, most of the same songs as "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" but a totally different style. And her version of "Ol' 55" is awesome.

I can't remember the name, but it's the big fluorescent yellow place somewhere across from the U-Bookstore. 2nd Time Around? Something like that... the one with the display of guitars in the window.

I just plain love Sarah Mclachlan. :D I skimmed through bits of "Freedom Sessions" last night and was really impressed by how different the instrumentals are on this one than her usual stuff. I think I still lean toward "Touch" as my favorite album, but I can't think of a single one I don't love.

*Sighs* I was going over something last night and realized - "Touch" is the one I'm still searching for, "Solace" is the one I love. I'm not sure how I'm always mixing those names up....

Wah! I want new music too! I want to see/hear the Lilith Fair ones, and I can't wait to hear Freedom Sessions! I didn't know there was anything out by Sarah that you didn't already have. It sounds wonderful. I've never heard of Sheila Chandra, who is she? How long does this sale last?

Oh, and how was the meeting, I've been really interested to hear since you said that you were going to be a part of this commitee of the Senior Gift Council.

You'll like Freedom Sessions, I think - it's a bit slower than most of her old stuff, and more on the folksy end of what she does. Same songs as before, mostly, but one new cover that I haven't heard yet. And of course the Lilith Fair CDs are a great mixed bag of just all kinds of music. I was happy to find a women I really like on each, and a couple new ones that sound good.

Sheila Chandra's an east Indian singer - she does a sort of... hmm... kind of chanting/droning type of singing that I really like. I can't remember how I found her the first time, but I'm very pleased with what I've heard of this CD, so far.

The sale goes at least through this week - from what I understand, they're trying to halve their collection so they can rent out part of their space. And the meeting went well - this was the first time just the editorial committee has met, and I think we're going to get along really well. Small group, nice folks, should be fun getting our letter written and all. Much better than trying to cope with the whole council at once.

You'll have to let me hear Sheila Chandra. I think I might have heard her on NPR over the summer, the name sounded sort of familiar when you first mentioned it, and I remember hearing a few wonderful cuts from some East Indian woman's cd. I hope it was her, she was absolutly wonderful, and now would have the name again.

I was about to say maybe that's where I heard her originally, too, but then I remembered - she did a bit of singing on the soundtrack for the Two Towers! That's how I found her - the song called "Breath of Life" had her in it, if I recall. *Pleased to finally remember*
