Well, it's the last day of break. I've made icons. I've read. I've made lunch for tomorrow and Tuesday. Really ought to go to the grocery store, but putting that off because I just can't be buggered to go out at the moment. Planning on doing some writing, now. I'm feeling reasonably productive about all of this, oddly.

Someone on one of the English majors comms posted a link to a community with a "50 books in a year" challenge, and I have to admit, I thought that was pretty funny. Fifty books in a year? That's supposed to be a challenge? I'm pretty sure I read at least 100 just for classes, in a given year. But hey, I thought - I've never really kept track. How would I know? And so, I am saying for the record that I will attempt to keep track of the books I read, and see how many I end up reading over the course of a year. Beginning with March 13, because that's the day I started keeping this list here. Course-related books will count, because... well, it's reading, isn't it? ;)

Equal Rites, Terry Pratchett
The Telling, Ursula K. Le Guin
Going Postal, Terry Pratchett
Guards! Guards!, Terry Pratchett
Men at Arms, Terry Pratchett

Fifty books in a year is a pretty good challenge. You have to understand that it's practically one book a week. Which may not seem a lot to you if most of what you do is read books, but to others, who have a lot of other hobbies outside of reading that's quite a lot. I consider myself an avid reader and I read, on average, about two books a month.

I think the reason it sounds like so little to me is that I'm in school - specifically in two majors that require my reading a lot of books. Back when I was still slogging through the English degree, I read something on the order of six books per class per quarter - same with the history classes I took. Anthro has a slightly lighter load in these terms because most of our reading tends to be articles and stuff, but it's still pretty reading-heavy. And then on top of that, I'm incapable of functioning without my 'fun reading.' So yeah, I expect that once I graduate (soon, eek) I'll have less time for reading. Ah well. ;)

Hmmm, 50 doesn't sound like a lot to me. I started wit a notebook on January 1st to keep track of the books I read this year, (some of the people on one of the reading communities I'm on suggested it) and I've read 17 books since then.
a couple are pretty small books though. (Address Unknown, and Catwings, which, BTW was great)

Oh, yay, I'm glad you liked Catwings! I barely remember them, but I remember thinking they were really really cute, and I was totally boggled when I found out it was Le Guin who'd written them. So very adorable!

It really was darling, and I loved the drawings too. I forget who did them, but they were so captivating!

Yeah, the illustrations are pretty much all I remember from the books. I have a vague feeling of the story, but mostly just the pictures. They were so cute.

I love "books read" lists. At the idea of a teacher, I've been tracking the titles and authors of every book I've read since I was 12. I periodically post to my LJ brief reviews of the last several books I've read.

Wow, that's impressive! I sort of wish I'd been keeping track for that long, it'd be one heck of a bizarre list to look at. ;)
