The upcoming movie "Snakes on a Plane" has been something of a running joke in the office, ever since we heard the first mention of it in an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on NPR. Apparently it's turned into quite the cult phenomena already. While I applaud the good Mr Jackson for his savvy decision about the title ("I will not be in this movie if you change that title" or something very similar), I've really had very little to say about the whole thing other than to laugh at the absurdity of the concept.

Until now.

From the fandom that brought you "Big Damn Zombies, Sir"... Ladies and gentlemen, for the random hell of it, I give you... 'Snakes on a Jayne.'

And, of course, the matching icon.

Lol. It took me a minute to see what your icon said - that's adorable!

That is so funny. I'd MUCH rather have snakes on a Jayne, than snakes on a plane!

Well, yes. But you'd rather have a Jayne than a plane in any case, so there's not much distinction, is there? ;)

You've got that right!

No, someone else did - I post the stuff I do here, for the most part, not in the comms. I'm not confident enough to share my icons, yet, and even when I do I'll probably just link them back here.

I heard something about that snakey planey thing, but I'm not sure I get the whole phenomenon. Oh well.

I wanted to ask something. So I'm going to be in Seattle for a day with my dad this Sunday, and I was wondering if there was anything I needed to see, desperately. Y'know, some cool touristy thing, a great restaurant, whatever. We have NO plans, I've never been there before, and we're really there just to kill time after the admitted students day at University of Puget Sound.

Thanks! :D

Also, if you wanted to, like, come and say hi and hang out I'd be cool with that. But you don't have to. I know that might be weird for you or you might have plans, and that's fine. I'm just saying is all.

Oh, fun! What kind of thing do you like? There's the Space Needle (awesome, but pricey - might be best just to 'say hi' to it from the base, rather than going up), the Pacific Science Center (http://www.pacsci.org/) (officially oriented toward school-age kids, but damned if I didn't see tourists of all ages when I volunteered there years ago), Pike Place Market (one of my favorites, although it's really not that different from markets in most cities... it's right on the water, though!), the Seattle Aquarium... All that's pretty much in the same area, if you don't mind a monorail or very short bus-ride from Seattle Center where the Needle and the Science Center are to downtown. There's also the Seattle Underground tour, which I've heard is really awesome but haven't actually tried myself, yet.

If you like seafood, some of the best restaurants are around the waterfront downtown - there's an Ivar's fish bar if you're in the mood for fast and cheap, but there's also a fablous sit-down restaurant right there on the pier... I think it's called Elliot's? I'll get back to you on that one if you're interested - the specialize in oysters, but they do everything well. Best halibut I've ever had. And it doesn't come fresher than right off the pier. ;) Beni Hana's downtown has truly fabulous Japanese food, if you're into that... bit spendy, again, but definitely an experience.

I'd love to meet up with you! My schedule's all clear on Sunday, so just let me know when you'll be around and free for company, since I don't want to cramp the family style too much. But I make a decent local tour guide, and it'd be really fun to hang out for a while!

:takes notes: Aquariums! Science-y things! :D Also, monorail? Sounds cool, is it like ... a train?

Ooooh, seafood is wonderful. Will have to consider that.

Dad sounded not averse to the idea! We'll be driving up from Tacoma in the morning (dunno how long the drive's going to take, you'd probably know that better than I would). We will need to be at the airport which is apparently somewhere between Seattle and Tacoma by 4:00 in the afternoon. Maybe we can arrange a meeting spot or something, I'll send you an email with my vell number and whatnot in the morning. ^^ omg fun :D :D :D :D :D

Vell number? Is clearly the new cool kid slang for cell number. Didn't you know. >>

The monorail is a constant point of political contention a sort of a light-rail train that runs a few stories above street-level in downtown Seattle. It's only from one point to another (the political contention was a ten year long attempt to get it extended into something really useful for commuters), but it's darned useful since those two spots are pretty much the centers of tourist activity in the city. Bit old and not nearly so hight-tech-y as it was when it was initially designed for the world's fair, but it's still pretty cool.

Depending on the time, I'd say Tacoma to Seattle ought to run you... between 40 min and an hour? I don't drive a lot, so that's really just a fair guess, but on a Sunday the traffic shouldn't be bad, at least. But yeah, definitely write me with your vell number (XD), and I'll send mine back to you, so we can work out a good spot to meet. Yay!

Speaking of politics, it just occured to me that the first time I'll be allowed to vote will be at college. Will have to figure out the registering later. XD Also, that sounds cool, the monorail...

Awesome, check your email for details. ;D
