memorial day
May. 29th, 2006 10:35 amHappy Memorial Day to my fellow Americans the sane people who share my country. Turns out every time I type "my fellow Americans," now, it comes out in Bush's voice. :P
And, on that note, here. Have something that should upset you. Thanks to
ellid and
seachanges for bringing this to everyone's attention.
Today of all days, we shouldn't think thinking about this. Today, we ought to be thinking about people who are over in Iraq, people who were over in Vietnam, Korea, or any other military endeavour the United States has gotten itself into. We shouldn't be in a "gods, our country is full of morons" mood today. At least I sure as hell don't want to be. If people are interested in what the founding fathers would say about something, I recommend they fucking read them themselves. Or at least check out the relevent sections of a good "Bartlett's Quotations." I highly recommend both of them - our country could use a few more people who actually follow the tenets it was founded on, rather than the vague impressions they get from the morons on high.
That said, I hope everyone from the US will consider taking some time today to memorialize everyone who dies in war, not just the folks wearing our colors. The media can paint it how they like, but it's most certainly not a black-and-white world out there.
(Lastly,
wanderingbeyond,
ryunohi - I'll see you guys at 4pm, as per the plans of last week? I'm going to be hauling my books, notebook, and knitting, but I'll try to remember to bring some snackies, too.)
