Happy Memorial Day to my fellow Americans the sane people who share my country. Turns out every time I type "my fellow Americans," now, it comes out in Bush's voice. :P

And, on that note, here. Have something that should upset you. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ellid and [livejournal.com profile] seachanges for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Today of all days, we shouldn't think thinking about this. Today, we ought to be thinking about people who are over in Iraq, people who were over in Vietnam, Korea, or any other military endeavour the United States has gotten itself into. We shouldn't be in a "gods, our country is full of morons" mood today. At least I sure as hell don't want to be. If people are interested in what the founding fathers would say about something, I recommend they fucking read them themselves. Or at least check out the relevent sections of a good "Bartlett's Quotations." I highly recommend both of them - our country could use a few more people who actually follow the tenets it was founded on, rather than the vague impressions they get from the morons on high.

That said, I hope everyone from the US will consider taking some time today to memorialize everyone who dies in war, not just the folks wearing our colors. The media can paint it how they like, but it's most certainly not a black-and-white world out there.

(Lastly, [livejournal.com profile] wanderingbeyond, [livejournal.com profile] ryunohi - I'll see you guys at 4pm, as per the plans of last week? I'm going to be hauling my books, notebook, and knitting, but I'll try to remember to bring some snackies, too.)

Ack, shit, and well fuck. I got totally caught up in other things and forgot about Firefly, and now Monday is full. I know much hecticness is coming up, but is there another good day? Wednesday? Next Wednesday? Even next Thursday? I'm going to alternately sneer and whimper in a corner.

I'm headed out at the moment, but I'll get hold of Erin and we can figure out something else. No worries - I ought to be getting work done tonight anyway!

Don't worry about it! Erin, a friend of hers, Amy and I ended up watching a few episodes, but I can totally get together with you for some watching later on, when we're both less busy. It'll have to wait a few days at least, 'cause now both of our copies of the DVDs are on loan. I should be getting mine back relatively soon, though.

I do have Season 6 of DS9, if you ever want to come over and do some geek nostalgia, too. ;)

Yeah. It drives me nuts that it even needs saying, but apparently...

That link is wonderful. Mind if I post it in my own journal?

Very well said, and thank you for saying it!

Thanks. It's so stupid that it has to be said, but I guess that's life.

It's never a bad thing to advocate common decency and compassion.

Not at all. It's just sad that it has to be advocated for. It is called common decency, after all. Pity it's not at all common in the real world.

What is wrong with people? I mean, seriously -- how does one justify that to themselves? It's one thing when some miseducated moron thinks that the FFs said or believed things that they didn't, but to actually go about making quotes up out of whole cloth is just beyond despicable. Seriously new lows, here.

GAHHHHHHHH. *smacks things*

Your icon really says everything that needs to be said. Democracy only works with an educated, thinking populace.
