weekend, and a question

Hey, theladyfeylene, weren't you looking for info on the cat at the Algonqian Hotel a little while ago? NPR has an article on their main page today.

Had a nice, relaxed weekend of random fannishness. Friday, maymargaret and I set up a complete scene-by-scene breakdown for a stage opera of Lord of the Rings (yeah, the whole thing, and no, I don't know how we did it, either), and then watched half of the extended Return of the King because, what the hell, at that point what else made sense?

Most of Saturday marathoning the end of B5 season 3, for me, followed by a lot of flailing and a reasonably significant amount of writing and reading (Night Watch and Pledged). Sunday I went out to breakfast with narsilion, inflicted a few episodes of B5 on her, and wrote for a while longer before dinner with coramegan and the housemates, attacking a neighborhood fig tree, and an evening walk with maymargaret. And then more writing.

Regarding the "what would my characters say about me" meme, nekokoban made an interesting point - maybe this meme would be better asked of the 'audience' for one's writing. So, I ask you all, out of curiosity - what do you think my characters would say to me, if they could? No holds barred - if you think Zoe'd chew me out for putting her through that spate of post-Serenity mourning fics, go for it. ;)

And now, I'm going to go make more tea. Because I don't think I'll survive the day without it.

That sounds like a great weekend! Glad you got some time to do some writing - does the job seem less stressful after all this time?

Me too - it's been so hard to fit it in, lately, but I think I'm finally figuring it out!

It does. It's been almost two months, now, and I think I'm finally feeling better about the whole thing. For the moment, at least, until the next crisis. ;)

Oh, that's always the way it goes - one crisis to the next!

I'm doing pretty well. Still a little guilty whenever I'm not working, but the novel is not drawing me nearly so much as fanfic. The essays are seeming much more managable, and hopefully once our current company leaves (my eight-year-old godbrother, who is kind of a pill), things will get back into a more productive routine for me.

Yup, I know how you feel on that. I've got two novels in progress (both having been in one degree of progress or another for the last several years as I stew over them, start new versions, research, etc), but fic is so much easier to pay attention to. Nice, short bits. Like you, I'm crossing my fingers on essays at the moment. I have a few from my prose class last quarter that I want to edit and submit to a few places.

It just feels so good to unwind with some fanfic at the end of the day. I've been plugging away at my Simon/Kaylee series-spanning fic of doom, but the writing/revision process goes something like this for me:
While I'm writing it: "This rocks! I am so ON!"
The next morning, while I'm reading it: "Umm... Maybe if Simon had a bag over his head, and Kaylee were on speed they would act like this..."
When I start to revise: "Huh. Not so bad after all."
I don't know.
