last night...

I've been such an asocial slug lately. I blame this on the fact that we have a full house, now, and that when I get home, I tend to either splut on the couch to hang out with them, or to run into my room to try to get some of the writing I've been working on done. I don't get to write at work. It's a tragedy. Anyway, yesterday was the height of sluggishness - we had wine and cheese at the office, then went out to the bar a block away for more drinks (I only had one, but still) and appetizers, and then I... slithered home reading Expendable. Damn that book is good. Anyway, got home, went splut on the couch as usual... managed to get changed and all for Contra, then
narsilion called and I got distracted by working out furniture and visiting and stuff.
Realized at 8pm that counting in the hour it'd take us to catch the bus, there really wasn't a hell of a lot of logic in going to Contra. Sorry,
pauldf - I was hoping that wouldn't happen. Next week, hopefully.
So instead we went down to the Latona pub, had a really fabulous bread-and-cheese plate and some beers, then came home. And, of course, Jessi and I watched three more episodes of B5.
I have to say, Drakh is the most awesome alien design we've had yet. That is one fabulous look they've got going there - somewhere between a demon and a Drazi, with a rock outcropping thrown in for fun. Really cool-looking thingy. I'm unclear on whether Drakh is the species name or the individual name (or both?), but hey - who am I to complain?
I apologize for having apparently given up on dividing these by episode - I just can't keep track anymore, now that things are moving quickly and the episodes are tending to bleed together in terms of plot and action. I don't know why it would particularly matter to any of you, since everybody who's reading this has either already seen S5 or doesn't care, but... if you liked the old way better, I'm sorry.
Points to JMS for not pulling the "Delenn-in-danger" plotline any more frequently than he did, at least in a way that required Sheridan to come riding to the rescue. The only times I can think of... there was "Comes the Inquisitor," which was a huge plot-point and character development episode for both of them, and then... I think it was "Ceremonies of Darkness and Light?" And then the one where she steps up as Entil'zha, which doesn't really count because it was Marcus who saved her, while Sheridan never really knew about the danger. Anyway, I've always loved how, yeah, sometimes Delenn has to be rescued... and just as frequently we see her going to Sheridan's rescue. ;) And, from a purely selfish perspective, it was a relief to see her and Lennier finally stuck together for long enough that they both could and had to talk at least a little about everything that's been going on between them. I'd been expecting Lennier to say something, but my heart still did flippies when he cracked. Especially knowing, from our perspective as the audience, that no, they weren't going to die, and damn was that going to be awkward later. That said, I personally didn't agree with how Delenn handled it... at least the first part. From the perspective of their culture, yes, okay, telling him that she hadn't heard, and allowing him to save face that way, was the right thing to do. The incurable romantic in me bristles at how it in some ways forces Lennier to say, "It was nothing. I said nothing." This isn't nothing to him, and it sure as hell isn't going to help his emotional issues right now to pretend it is.
She softened it so much with the next line, though. "I suddenly felt very complimented, and honored by your presence... and your friendship." Something like that. I wanted to snuggle them both. (In fact, I feel the need to lodge a complaint with my subconscious - apparently it was so impressed by this scene that Lennier actually did appear in one of my dreams last night, because apparently my mind decided I really did need to hug him. Why do I never get Ivanova in my dreams... or even Marcus... anyway. At least it wasn't Londo.)
Lyta tells Sheridan and the others at some point in all of this that the Vorlon homeworld is off-limits until we're ready - we'll be allowed there in a million years, when we've evolved enough. I guess now we know why the encounter suits at T+1million in "Deconstruction of Falling Stars" looked so familiar. They didn't just resemble Vorlon suits, they probably were Vorlon suits. And not just because props and costumes couldn't afford to make new.
If it had been me behind the camera, I think I would have put a little bit more effort into keeping Delenn's hideous shoes out of the screen when she passed out. Stupid, I know, but I found them distracting. They're... yellow. And... well, hideous. But considering other footwear we've seen her in, I think we can just agree that Minbari just plain have horrible taste in shoes. Also, the whole baby thing continues to terrify and upset me (no, I don't know why exactly, but it does! I think I'm half convinced that David is going to be... I don't know, but it's not going to be good, I'm sure of that, and I think the other part is that DS9 ended with the captain and his new wife getting pregnant, too, and that really kind of makes me go "bwuh?"), and now it also irritates me because not so very long ago I had 12 handwritten pages of fic in the works where the seeming hormonal upset that Delenn was going through in this episode figured fairly prominently as a plot-device... and I dropped it because I thought it was just too much of a plot device. To then have it happen in canon... alas. I adored Sheridan's reaction to her outburst, though... and I will admit to being a horrible person and being rather amused by Mira's accent on that line. I wish I could write in IPA in LJ. I've never heard "Bastards" pronounced in quite that way before. ♥
Speaking of trite plot devices... as much as I loved Lochley's scene with Garibaldi about alcoholism (which, btw, is such a recurring theme in this show), the explanation about her father really irritated the hell out of me. Painting. Isn't that just so cliche. Couldn't we come up with something just a bit less twee, please? Thank you.
Great question from the Lurker's Guide: "If Sheridan really did suspect that Garibaldi had started drinking again, why did he entrust him with delicate intelligence duties such as monitoring the Rangers' messages during the Centauri blockade?" My theory would be that he suspected after that. But maybe I'm just being way too nice to Sheridan on that count.
Poor G'Kar. I loved how mischeivous Lochley was about the whole thing at the beginning, but then... agh, poor man.
Everybody's leaving. *Wibbles*
Three episodes left.
Time for a major cleaning and reorganization of my room today. I really want to get it looking... well, maybe not fabulous, but decent would be nice. :P
