As promised... Halloween pictures! This is just a sample of what I've got, as it takes a while to get them edited, cropped, etc... and the ones I've bothered with are heavy on the housemates and I, and the Dora. ;) But here they are!

Duh. Must pay better attention to my coding. Fixed now! ...Maybe? Umm.... yeah.

The Endless. Clockwise from upper left, that's [livejournal.com profile] niwatorimegami as Dream (with Matthew the raven), me as Destiny, [livejournal.com profile] nekokoban as Death, [livejournal.com profile] miss_arel as Desire, [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret as Delirium, and her fishy whose name I've forgotten. From Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics.

Close on Desire, Dream, and Death.

Close on Delirium, partly for how pretty she looks, partly just because I'm smug over the makeup. XD

And [livejournal.com profile] sigelphoenix as Elphaba, and me as Galinda from Wicked.

"You deserve each other, this hat and you, you're both so... smart!"

Update: More pics, including some courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] niwatorimegami!

Kari makes a very good pirate. XD

Elphaba finds Destiny very creepy. Especially when it's stolen her hat.

Death loves a good burger joint.

Before: Can we take out the curlers now, please?

And after! Very very very happy about the curls. I honestly hadn't thought they'd work....

And one last shot (for now) for the Wicked fans - our attempt at the official poster. Unfortunately, Elphie's hat was not cooperating. :P

Okay, everyone was talking about these costumes for weeks, but I still have no clue now that I've seen them--what are these costumes of?? Is it a book or something?

Heeeee, I kind of have that problem, too - they're from the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. I've only read a little bit of the series, but they seem really neat. ;)

Ah - with the exception of Galinda and Elphaba. They're from Wicked, originally by Gregory McGuire, now a musical. :D

Well, yes. And the book before that... :P Usually people are confused about Elphaba's name, and since (as far as I know) that's from Wicked specifically........

I completely understand. (:
Her character is also a lot better defined in the Maguire book, compared to the Baum book, too. The price one pays for having narrative focus on the wrong character, eh, Mister Baum?

She is, definitely. I didn't particularly care for the ending of the book (it seemed very rushed, and a little as though he didn't have a clue how to go about it), but the first half to 3/4 of the book are wonderful, IMHO. Morally ambiguous characters are so much more fun than the sugary sweet perfect ones!

What you said on the book. I've avoided the sequel because I've heard it falls down, but I really loved the way he R&G'ed the original world. And sooner or later I'm going to have to see the musical as well. (It's Phantom of the Opera all over again...)

And exactly what you said about the sequel. Every time I see it I kind of twitch - I really didn't like the whole deal with her son even in the first book, and the idea of a book all about him.... eugh.

I ♥ the musical unbelievably much. But I understand it's not some people's thing, and it does definitely simplify a lot of stuff from the book. Makes Elphaba out to be a more idealistic character, etc. It's just adorable, and the music is fabulous, though.

From: [identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's not that I'm avoiding the musical--much like the ALW Phantom, I just haven't scraped up the cash to see it, and other things tend to drift higher on the priority list (like flying cross country to see Rose and stuff) so it probably won't happen soon. And I'm generally not a big fan of music from shows I haven't seen, although Cabaret is an exception. (I *so* wanted to see the revival with Alan Cumming who is The Sex with a side of Sex.)

I can totally empathize with that - I had to skip it when it came around here, and I'm just lucky that one of my housemates had seen it waaaaay back in San Francisco before it became a big deal, so she was determined to get everyone to hear the soundtrack... and explain where and how all the songs fit in, as well.

*Laughs* That was me last night: "I have curls!!!" Five minuts later - "No, really - I have curls!!!" So silly. XD

And thank you so much! I had sooo much fun doing everybody's makeup, but I was pretty darned relieved that I ended up looking okay, too. My skin's been acting so badly the last week, I was really worried. Thank the gods it calmed down in time that a little makeup mostly covered it.

okay, obviously I found it, but wow. Complicated X3 Damn you kids and your fancy S2 styles ^^;;

Thanks! Yeah... I keep forgetting that it's me. Tall and me don't go together in my mind. Then I remember how hard it was to keep bent over like that with my knees bent, and I remember that it was me on that chair. :P

Oh my gosh you are crazy cute! Ok that's not usually something a grown woman wants to hear but you have on a poofy dress and little curls so you get cute this time =P

I love the curls! It looks like you just tied them up with fabric, or something? I am surprised that works, now I want to try it.

From: [identity profile] rivendellrose.livejournal.com
Lol. Thank you! The dress is hideously poofy, but for Glinda, it works. :D

Basically, yeah. The idea is to take strips of fabric (whatever you can find, I just used scraps from something I had laying around) separate bits of hair and roll the hair under and around the strip and tie it at the top. We put a fat crayola pen in with the fabric so the curls wouldn't wind up too tight around the rags, too, and then slipped the pen out when it got to the top. It's a pain with long hair (and I recommend having somebody else do it - I can't imagine doing it on my own head, all over), but it works, and it's actually pretty comfy to sleep in - I just wore a knit hat right over the rags and all, to keep them from coming apart.

Thank you! The other that I was involved in were the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, via Gregory Maguire's Wicked. My friends and I are too geeky for 'normal' costumes, I guess.
