thanksgiving
Nov. 23rd, 2006 12:28 pmHappy Thanksgiving to all my American friends, and to everyone, I want you all to know how grateful I am to know you. Whether we're friends in person and just communicate over LJ for the hell of it, or if we've never met and are on opposite sides of the globe, I'm blessed to have such wonderful, kind, fascinating people in my life.
A few of the things I'm grateful for:
My family - who, despite my occasional complaints and gripe sessions, really are wonderful.
My friends, especially the UW crew and all associated people - because I can't express how desperately I've always wanted this kind of second family, and whether or not I make it clear, it's the best thing in my life right now that I have all of you.
As a corollary to that, my housemates - who put up with so much from me, particularly when I'm tired and cranky and snappish, and with whom I have so much random fun. I can't imagine another group of people with whom I could more happily stay up until all hours of the night talking about fannish things with.
My cat - just because he's my cat, and I'd feel lost without a giant ball of orange fur bossing me around. We're in our third year together, now, and he still sometimes gives me that old "hey, baby" lazy look that grabbed my heart at the shelter. ;)
Our house - because despite the fact that it's old and tending to fall apart in all the fun old-house kinds of ways, it's a good house, and it's served us well.
The fact that I was able to leave my job in a completely amicable sort of way and, by extension, have enough of a cushion in terms of my monetary situation that I can take a little break before I really start pounding the cement trying to find a new one. It's always in my mind, but it's a beautiful luxury not to have it be a do-or-die kind of situation, and I recognize how rare that is in this world.
And the chance to write and have my work read, even though I feel a lot of times like I'm just barely working out the details of this art. I'm happy to have a craft that I can spend my life concentrating on, and equally pleased for the opportunity fandom gives me to practice in a comfy and strangely safe way with it.
