The trick to Valentine's Day is not giving a damn about the whole single thing. I've known that for a long time, but I think this is the first time I've actually pulled it off with a significant degree of success. I hung out with my friends after work, ate tasty things, watched nostalgic TV, and now I'm going to write. Perfect Valentine's Day. ♥

Sounds like the perfect Valentine's Day to me! I had fun in a very low-key way: went to photography class (turned in an assignment & got an A), worked a full day (actually got something done for a change--nearly finished editing the quarterly issue of Virginia Libraries), came home & talked to Marc for a little while about our current obsessions (for me, it's the Nero Wolfe series, books & TV), ate some chocolate & read some Nero Wolfe, & then wrote for a couple of hours (for the first time in a week). We're actually going out to dinner tonight instead. I'd rather have a low key day like this any day, than some of the really unhappy Valentine's Days that involved being obsessed with someone I couldn't have :)

That sounds like a fabulous Valentine's Day - all full of things you love. And I completely agree with you about avoiding the hype, and trying to stay out of the rush to make things perfect (and, by no coincidence, commercialized). It's more fun to avoid the fuss and bother of the day-of, anyway. ;)

I'm glad you didn't let it upset you - it's always bothered me when people let holidays upset them. I mean, they're celebrations. Whatever the reason for them, they're specifically created to give people a reason to feel joy on a day that would otherwise be regular.

Also, there's nothing wrong with being single if you're as beautiful as you are, and could get a date in a heartbeat if only you weren't looking for just the right person.

Exactly. One of the biggest troubles with American society (I think, at least) is that we let everything become such a big big big huge deal that if things don't go exactly as the media tells us they ought to, we're crushed. Your wedding wasn't perfect, your fiance's proposal didn't go like a scene from a Hollywood movie, Christmas didn't look like a Hallmark commercial... Bleh. Who cares?

You are officially the sweetest person ever. ♥ I wish it was that simple (do I ever), but I love you muchly for saying that it could be. *Hugs*
