Feeling better today - thank you to those who replied to my last drama-tastic post, and who put up with me in person bitching about it

My favorite supervisor at work informed me today that he and a friend of his (both over 50) are attempting to introduce "to geezer" as a new verb in the American lexion. His example of usage: "Done any good geezering lately?" "Yup, I told a young person all the things that are wrong with their music."

Also, went out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] narsilion for Spring-y-ness (for which she bought me too many cool things and then refused to let me pay for dinner as a gift in return, grrr!), and then to Barnes and Noble (shhh, don't tell work!) where I bought CDs. Aimee Mann and Jess Klein. Much love.

And now, because I'm avoiding my nightly writing - a meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] hoperomantic!

Name your top six TV shows right now, before reading the questions

Mine are all off the air because... um... I don't watch current TV. Except for "Blood Ties," which I would watch, except I keep forgetting to get the recordings from my mom. Oops. And in no particular order, because I don't want to feel like I'm picking favorites...

1. Firefly
2. Buffy
3. The X-Files
4. Babylon 5
5. Angel
6. Blood Ties (only seen one ep, but I love the books, so...)

1. Who is your favourite character from #2 (Buffy)?
...I'm just curious. Does anybody here not know the answer to this? Because if I've managed to hide my love for Giles even over the internet, I'd be impressed with my discretion.

2. Who is your least favourite character from #4 (Babylon 5)?
Another gimme. Totally Byron. No competition.

3. What would a crossover between #1 (Firefly) and #5 (Angel) include?
Joss Whedon desperately fangirling himself, but doing it in such a way that it actually worked? No, seriously... sadly, [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret and I have pretty much worked this out together. See, the end of Earth That Was wasn't actually ecological disaster like everybody thinks - it was just Angel doing one of his classic 'trying to save the world but inadvertently bringing about potential apocalypse' gigs... and this time he didn't manage to save it in time. So since then he's been working for redemption (again... still... always...) by, among other things, working a very high position in the Alliance government. Hell, he was probably the guy who invented the Alliance. Because that's the kind of smart/stupid thing he'd do. What makes things interesting is that Spike and Dru end up hooking up with Mal & Co. after a planet of the usual backwood types set out for another witch burning... and neither group can tell which dark-haired psychic girl they're really after. So Spike and Mal pretty much cut their losses by grabbing both and high-tailing it back to Serenity. Big trouble when Angel shows up on a mission to track down the girl whose powers might bring about the end of the universe...

4. Who is your favourite ship from #6 (Blood Ties)?
Vicki/Henry, of course. Canon be damned (much as I love it) - those two rock together, and their love will eventually overcome the whole territoriality thing. Especially since I don't think they're going the vampirism route for Vicki in the show...

5. If you were to set one person from #3(X-Files) and one person from #6(Blood Ties) on a blind date, who would they be?
...Does it have to be romantic? Because Vicki and Scully would be absolutely adorable together, and complete best-friend material, but I can't see them dating. Or rather I can, and I like it, but it wouldn't really be in character. So... I guess that's my answer anyway, isn't it? Unless just for humor value - then it'd totally be Mulder and Vicki. Ye frigging gods, he would drive her up the wall... it'd be hilarious.

6. If you could meet one person from #4(Babylon 5) and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do?
As soon as I saw this question, I thought "well, #4 must be B5, because it's always B5 when I get this kind of question." And I always answer the same thing: Susan Ivanova. And... essentially? Worship her. Adore her. Fall completely in love with her. And, if her pattern continues, die miserably at just the time when it started to look like our relationship might have a snowball's chance in hell. If I'm really lucky, there will be sex first. And in that case, I might just die happy.

7. If you could change one thing about #2 (Buffy)'s plot line, what would you change?
Erase all of Season 6. Leave it at Buffy dying at the end of S5.
No. Wait. Better. Erase the stupid 'Giles leaves Sunnydale' plot device in S6. I have no idea how else this could have been solved, but damn it... it's just not the same without Giles. It makes Buffy insanely sad not to have him, and damn it, it makes me insanely sad, too. So there.

8. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5(Angel), and why you like the relationship between them.
It would be the one show that I know the least about, out of all of these. Okay... fine. Umm. Angel and Cordelia. See, the great thing about them is that they're both... dumb isn't exactly the word I'm looking for, but it's possibly as close as I can come right now. They're both insanely self-centered in their weird little ways (Angel is just backward and self-effacing about it, whereas Cordelia is completely honest and straight-forward in her arrogance), they're both incapable of having normal romantic relationships, and I think in a lot of ways they're both desperately lonely people. Their friendship is turning out to be one of my favorite things about the show, which is eery since back when I started watching Buffy I pretty much hated both of them.

9. If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1(Firefly) and #3(X-Files) were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be?
Okay... ummm... ensemble cast vs. duo. I'm going to say that Mal is the 'lead' on Firefly, because he's the hero/anti-hero, and because we see the story through his eyes (sort of - what with the flashback at the start of Serenity-the-episode and all). For X-Files, I'm going to have to go with Scully as the lead, because she's more the viewpoint character, the one who reacts to Mulder as the sort of... catalyst character. Does that make sense? Anyway, that puts me at... umm.... a serious quandary. But I'm going to have to go with Scully, I think. I love poor old Mal, but I've 'known' Scully much longer. Besides, I have a better chance of hauling her smaller mass out of the water.

10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4(B5), what order would you choose?
I really don't remember the order of characters. I'm vaguely tempted to say that Delenn and G'Kar should be first, though, just on general principle.

11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6(Blood Ties), what would the character be like, and what would their role be?
Tony, damn it. Tony Foster. He's a character from the books who got cut from the TV show, and I miss him dearly.

12. What happens in your favourite episode of show #2(Buffy)?
Favorite? I'm really not good at picking favorites... I guess... I really really like "Once More with Feeling?" In which a demon casts a spell on Sunnydale that makes everyone act like life is a Broadway musical. I pretty much just like that one because Giles everyone sings, though. And because Joss Whedon rocks at lyric-writing.

13. If you could kill off one of the characters in #1(Firefly), who would it be and how would you do it?
Like, a main character? o_O No! This is Joss Whedon, people - he does that often enough on his own!!!
But if we're talking about any character, I vote Niska. 'Cause he was a scary old bastard.

14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3(X-Files) or show #5(Angel), which would you choose?
Gonna have to go with Angel. But only because a) I would be hoping to meet either Joss Whedon or Jane Espenson, both of whom I fangirl madly, and b) because the makeup they use for demons (especially Lorne) drives me mad with makeup-artist envy and glee, and I want a good close look at it. The sets for both shows are, sadly, really not all that impressive, in that they're mostly normal settings. I'd be much more interested in just the set of Firefly.

Oh god, you're right. They totally would. Wow... That just makes the whole thing even more insane and crack-fic-like.

And, sadly, really does sort of make me want to write the damned thing. Like I need another monster Joss-verse project to eat my soul... XD

Eat your soul?

So much love for the Watcher-boys... I thought I'd never like Wesley, but the more I see of him on Angel, the more I really adore the hapless little twit.

I've been on a kick of making my own Buffy icons, so I probably won't snag it, but I can definitely appreciate the work. And the subject matter. ♥

That, my friend, is the magic of Angel. It took three of the Buffy characters I had the least interest in and made them almost as cool as if they had become evil.
(Because as we know, in the Whedonverse, becoming evil makes you way cooler.)

Yeah, which is why I really do sort of mean everybody singing... I just get more giddy on the parts When Giles is singing. And the demon. I have much love for that demon. :D

(Actually, I'm listening to the demon's song right now...)

I don't remember the singing in the Halloween bit. There was a bit in the cafe, the bit in in the dream episode... and something else that I'm forgetting. And then the musical.

...I'm not obsessed, though. *Headdesk*

There were rather a few Hallowe'en episodes. For a night when nothing in the 'spooky world' happened, they did seem to keep busy. This was Buffy in College season, because it was the Haunted Frat House. Which I think was the bit in the cafe.

Yeah... they tend to be some of my favorites, too. *g* There's just something cute about Buffy & Co. on Halloween.

Damn, I totally need to see the ep again if that's the case - I could've sworn the cafe bit was earlier, toward the end of the prior season.

Hrm. I'm pretty sure at the end Xander asks if they can go back to the Haunted House because the cafe was giving him the wiggins. And I will pretend to know what I'm talking about until proven wrong in which case I will deny everything.

Maybe it was the Halloween prior, then? I could swear that the haunted house ep ended with everybody in Giles' apartment eating candy, and Giles finding the caption on the picture of the fear demon: "actual size."

That line about the cafe giving Xander wiggins sounds really familiar, though. Damn. I totally have to hunt down that episode, now...

"Where the Wild Things Are" -- 4.18 -- in which Buffy&Riley have sex even more nonstop than usual, and everyone lusts over Giles playing "Free Bird" at the Espresso Pump. Not actually a Halloween episode. There's a big frat party and the spirits of abused teens take over the attendees. (That year's Halloween episode was "Fear, Itself," 4.4, with the tiny fear demon.)

From the buffyworld.com transcript:

XANDER: Um, could we go back to the haunted house? Cause, this is creeping me out.
TARA: Does he do this a lot?
XANDER: Sure. Every day the earth rotates backward and the skies turn orange.
WILLOW: Now I remember why I used to have such a crush on him.
TARA: Well, he *is* pretty good.
ANYA: His voice ... is pleasant.
XANDER: What?!
WILLOW: Oh, come on, he is kinda sexy.
XANDER: I'm fighting total mental breakdown here, Will. No more fueling the fire please.

Actually, if Angel and Firefly crossed over, I think what would happen is Angel would flip when he met Mal because the dude looks and talks eerily identical to the evil preacher in Buffy Season 7. XD

On a slightly more serious note, if you like all those shows (as I do, other than Blood Ties, which I now might have to check out) you just might dig the new Battlestar Galactica...

LOL -- Battlestar Gallactica has been suggested to me many times. I believe I'd like it a lot. But weirdly enough, I'm a one-fandom kind of gal and I'm just not ready to let Firefly go yet. I still love it though I'm not as hot over it as I was one year ago. But for some reason, I feel disloyal when I contemplate getting into another fandom.

Damn, you're right about Joss and his penchant for killing characters. In fact, I was reading an online comic - alas, I don't remember which - and one of the main characters was talking to Joss. Apparently Joss had been chosen to redo Star Wars.

And the first thing he was going to do was kill Han.

Why?

Because everyone likes Han, and so his death would be so very heart-renderingly painful.

All hail Joss.
