keyboards are vital

So, the last few days were like "the revenge of the inanimate objects." First, my cat did a jig on my keyboard and poured water all over it, so my keyboard was all messed up.

Me: Types a "w"
Keyboard: eopt897!
Me: Ummm... "space-bar"
Keyboard: *b?
Me: Shit.

And then, of course, when I attempt the standard "turn off and then turn back on the next day" solution (while the keyboard attempted to drain), the computer informed me that no, that wasn't an option. It didn't want to talk to that disgusting, soppy keyboard anymore. No. It refused.

So... new keyboard. Shiny, new, and has a lovely warranty on it in case the cat decides to have more fun. I plan to find some way of making a cover for it. Preferably out of plastic. Or maybe iron. :P It's entirely possible that the old one, once it's dried out for a few weeks, will once again be usable... but honestly? The damned thing is something like seven years old. I figure that's probably past the standard lifespan for a keyboard that's constantly getting crumbs and cat hair and all that gunk in it.

Speaking of which, my mouse is still mad at me, too. Argh. Must clean. Must consider getting a new mousepad for it. Technology is such... fun. *Twirls finger*

In order to make this entry a complete hash of randomness, I'd like to note that apparently, Nathan Fillion and Tim Minear are completely cursed. Their new show, 'Drive,' has been canceled with only four episodes shown. This is where I hide from the rest of Firefly fandom, because stuff like this can only bring up bad memories...

That upgrade, unfortunately, will have to wait until I get a new computer. I don't think my current model can hack it.

After 7 years, I think I'm pushing the limit on PC lifespan. But I'm praying for this one to hold on a while yet... at least long enough for the switchover to be planned and voluntary on my part. :P

For the hand-me-down quality, I have my laptop. I rescued him from a life of miserable abuse at the hands of the sales manager at my old office. And for this he thanks me by not having the port required to hook up to our TV... alas. ;)

You can get optical mice with little adapters so they plug into an old-school mouse port, if you don't think you have an extra USB port handy.

Seriously? Wow, I didn't think they even made stuff for that port anymore! I sure couldn't find anything for the keyboard equivalent.

(I was sad to miss the Bunstable meeting tonight, btw - I'd already made plans for the evening. I've gotta be the lamest Scadian ever by now. :()

Yeah, I had to buy a new mouse pretty recently, and I remember thinking, "Huh, don't need one of those adapters!"

No worries-- it was pretty short. It looks like we're going to hold Spring Fling on campus the first Sunday in June, and we need to start working on the Light of Saint Bunstable scroll. There will be a scroll/ charter-painting work meeting the first or second Monday of May, but if you want to get together before then & work on scribal stuff, I'd be into that.

Keyboards are evil, my old one decided to die on me, loads of the keys stoped working etc. I thought ok I should probably try and clean it proparly, so I opened it up. I must have taken a wrong screw out some where - that or I really am just an idiot because all the little plastic things that the keys press down onto the circuit fell off/out and didn't go back on. So now i'm stuck with an old keyboard my dad had lying around somewhere.

Eaugh, yeah. I managed to take my old one apart and clean it once, several years ago (after spilling a latte on it...), but this time I didn't have the right screwdriver and it took me waaaaaay too long to notice the problem. Last time I caught it right away, before things went... bad. *Sighs*

Yeah, kitties are sooo helpful. But... I really like my new keyboard, so I guess I shouldn't be too upset? It's very nice, all clean and... tappy. It's a quiet keyboard, but it still makes a very nice tappy sound. Gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I'm typing. XD

Fifth Elephant was awesome - I can totally lend it to you next time we see each other. Lots of really fun Vimes, Carrot, and Angua stuff.

The last Smoke book comes out in paperback on June 30. Benefits of working at a bookstore - I can check release dates for anything in our system. *g*
