bleh, politics
Jul. 10th, 2007 09:50 amThe whole White House subpoena scandal over the firing of attorneys seems to me like the nail in the coffin of the idea that the U.S. government has any kind of responsibility or trustworthiness. I mean, honestly - "we'll talk to you, but we won't do it on record, we won't give you any more documents, and we won't swear to tell the truth?" What the hell, people. Let's at least try not to look like completely corrupt morons, shall we?
Yes, I've been listening to the news at work again. *Sighs* Executive privilege does not equal being completely beyond reproach or investigation. Not even a little bit.
Now I'm listening to a moron producer trying to claim that his documentary about the Japanese invasion of China in 1937 won't inflame political upset between the two countries... because it's a documentary. Honestly. Anyone who believes that documentaries are completely level and unbiased just because they only use newsreels and journal readings is either so naive that they shouldn't be able to hold a camera, is deluded by their own perceptions, or is just plain lying through their teeth. Non-fiction can be twisted around just as easily as fiction. There is no way to easily get an unbiased image of anything, particularly not war.
That's enough of politics for the moment. Bleh.
My work team is going out to see Transformers today, and while I'm not exactly thrilled about the movie... hey, why not? It's paid time off work, and it might be amusing. And I'm still having trouble finding things, of course, after the move. I really wanted to wear sandals today, because it's 90 F out and is supposed to be 93 tomorrow, which is nearly obscene in Seattle terms. I like the heat, but I'm also a native northwesterner, and I'm not used to this, particularly without being able to retreat into the dank cool of my old basement room. :P
Also, the lack of internet continues to make my writing tricky. I can write in Gmail at work... but I can't access that work at home. And I can't find the handwritten numerous pages that I wrote a few months ago for one of my Spring Kink fics. *Headdesk*

Date: 2007-07-10 05:13 pm (UTC)From all the people I've talked to who has seen Transformers, even the ones that thought it was silly camp thought it was a lot of fun. I suspect it's got that Van Helsing potential going for it ;)
Enjoy!

Date: 2007-07-10 08:40 pm (UTC)Transformers is pretty fun... I just wish it'd had more of the giant robots... and if that sounds like a weird thing to say, maybe it'll make more sense when you see the movie. XD Ah well, Shia LaBeouf is still adorable.

Date: 2007-07-11 01:03 am (UTC)It was pretty fun, kind of... you know, lots of robots, which isn't really my thing, but amusing. It was just a fun-outing kind of thing (the other option was mini-golf), but technically we've been putting up Transformer themed GMC ads on sites for the last few weeks, so... kind of work-related? Sort of? XD
I think Kendra wanted to see if you could come up and help us with stuff Wednesday or Thursday, but she's got a meeting thing tonight so she might not've had time to call you. We're still settling in... having a hard time finding stuff and all, and I have WAY TOO MANY BOOKS and desperately want to sell some to Half Priced Books and stuff so they're out of my hands. Because bleh. And lots of cleaning to do, so yay that theoretically everyone but Jessie will be there on Saturday.
Off I run! I'll try to call you tonight or tomorrow at some point!

Date: 2007-07-11 01:26 am (UTC)I already knew that it would be nothing like the show I watched as a kid and had been prepared to like the movie for what it was. But I just didn't find much to like about it at all. :(
And all I can say is a very sad 'ditto' about the White House. This administration is so corrupt, so blatantly unlawful...the only thing crazier than the administration is the lack of outrage from the public.

Date: 2007-07-13 01:00 am (UTC)I didn't watch Transformers as a kid, so I didn't have the nostalgia. I don't like robots. And I completely failed to find either Shia LeBoeuf (whose last name, I would like to point out, means "Beef") or the main girl even vaguely interesting. So... meh. On the other hand, I was amused by Hugo Weaving doing Megatron's voice, so that was kind of a plus. ;)
Yeesssssss. I just... I just can't believe it. It's started just making me laugh - no other reaction seems possible at this point.
