I had entirely forgotten how strange it can be to be in a currently running fandom. All the rumors and spoilers and panicking... yeesh.

For the record, I find Creepy Guy from "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" a somewhat improbable choice to replace Tennant when the time comes, but... I've been wrong before. Personally I wish they'd pick someone older and a bit less conventionally attractive... and am also somewhat disturbed by this show's tendency to do the "you've seen this person before, we know, but now he's someone else!" I know it's traditional Who practice, but... it kind of confuses me. I'm glad it happened with the people its happened with in the past, though, so... who knows?

I'm one of those obnoxious TV viewers who FEAR CHANGE, in case you hadn't noticed. o_O I've had a feeeew too many experiences with TV shows that were all "We're going to change things!" and then went into a tailspin of suck. Fortunately, with DW, that is intensely unlikely... but I'm still paranoid.

The new Who is the only I've had exposure to... and we need to finish watching the second season.

That said -- I know what you mean, for the most part. My Original Fandom was Sailormoon. :X ... Which was all over but the crying in Japan when I started watching the dub here in the States. I read all the "spoilers" early on, since no one considered them spoilers enough to protect the information -- especially since there was no sign that DiC would ever translate even so much as the rest of the 2nd season.

Switching to HP was... interesting. For the first several months of a new book being out, everyone's obsessed about spoilers... then gradually people stop caring. I find it amusing.

But I've never been in an active fandom in the same way, with new canon released with every episode, etc. That's got to be interesting.

TV shows that were all "We're going to change things!" and then went into a tailspin of suck.

I have now started to see that myself... can we say SGA? I feel for you.

What the guy who was in the school and then got assimilated? Ick no! He would make an awful doctor!

I'm not that big on change either, come to think of it, I was really pissed off/worried etc. at the change between Nine and Ten, and when Sinclair was replaced in B5 it took me ages to accept Sheridan (although that may have been in part his whole all american soldier with a cheesy grin attitude).

Okay, he's not the most likely candidate; I've accepted this. lol.

A lot of people in the Who fandom Fear Change...but of the Doctor, because anyone who's not David Tennant isn't pretty enough to play the Doctor. *snort* Yeah, he's pretty, but he's also a good actor. So how about picking people because they act well, you know?

The change in DW doesn't bother me nearly as much as the rumors themselves. I get so anxious about it and I don't know why. When it actually comes up in the show or is confirmed by official sources, I'm fine.

That said, ew, I hope it's not that guy. He bugged me.

Can I use that "tailspin of suck" phrase sometime? 'Cause I really like it.

I dunno, I kind of like that guy, if only because he's a direct descendant of Charles Dickens and I find that kind of nifty. XD Dunno whether he'd make a good Doctor, but... *shrug*

I'm totally not in touch with Who fandom: are there any other actors whose names are being tossed about for the part?

I liked him, I'm just iffy about him as the Doctor.

Oddly, not that I've noticed. This was the first serious rumor I'd seen bandied. Although there's been a lot of rumor about Tennant leaving at the end of this season or sometime in the next. *Sad*

I know this is absolute blasphemy in this journal, but I really can't stand Tennant and I long for the day he's replaced. I think he's a bad actor. I can see his appeal and maybe it's kind of charming the way he walks around with that astonished/surprised/bewildered look on his face, but the actor in me shrivels up and dies.

By the way, would you like to grab some drinks sometime next week and geek out over fandoms we have in common?

Blasphemy, with me at least, would be saying that Christopher Eccleston was a terrible actor. I like Tennant, but Eccleston was the one whose acting completely won my heart. Anyhow, you're talking to a former actress who actually detests Laurence Olivier... so blasphemy is a familiar thing to me on theatrical grounds. ;)

And sure! Drinks this week sounds like a good idea - what day is good for you? Any day this week ought to be fine for me.

Wednesday's great for me. The time... is largely dependent on where we're meeting, for me. I work in the SoDo district, but live in Greenlake, and buses that go home to where I live tend to be in central downtown. So... downtown or Greenlake are best for me in terms of meeting places. If Greenlake, then we'll have to push the time back to about 7:30 to account for my commute.

I live in the U-District so Greenlake is perfect. I'm really flexible on time so just tell me when you're comfortable with. What are some good places? I'm not very familiar with Greenlake in terms of its places to eat and drink.

Perfect! Let's see... there's Greenlake Bar and Grill right by the lake, or I could meet you someplace on Roosevelt or something - I used to live in the U-Dist, so anything around there is familiar to me. It'd just take a bit longer for me to get there.

Sounds good!

I'm usually home between 7 and 7:30, but is it okay if we meet at 8 to give me a margin in case I get snared in traffic?
