I have my own personal barometer: it's called 'the left half of my sinuses.' Whenever the weather changes... boom. And boy oh boy has the weather changed lately. Ouch.

Going to see Twelfth Night at the Seattle Repertory Theater. Hopefully my head/jaw/ear-ache decides to calm down so I can fully appreciate the performance. :P

Edit: Oh, and while I'm at it? The fuss over whether or not Billie Piper will be appearing in the 3 2009 Doctor Who specials? Made me laugh so hard I could hardly speak. Fandom is so delightfully funny. It's not that I don't think it's a vague, black-of-night, total-off-chance sort of possibility (hell, it's more likely than them ever bringing Eccleston back for a guest-shot, I can say that much...), but I definitely don't think they'd let out spoilers on it this early, if they were going to. Just my feeling.

I liked the Tempest the one time I saw it, but I'd have to say Henry V is ahead of it by a bit. Could just be that the performance I saw of it many years back kind of kicked the butt of everything. ;)

Awww! Another friend of mine has that with her knee - she killed it playing racquetball several years ago. It does make one feel old when the body starts refusing to cooperate... I freaked out a while ago when I realized I'm not as limber as I was in my teens. :P

Haven't seen or read that one yet - I think it's next on my list, due to (if I'm recalling my adaptations correctly) there being a movie of it starring Sir Ian McKellan.

Oh he's very good in that movie. It's weird. They make a lot of allusions to him being Hitler in that role. I liked it a lot.

Definitely next on the list, then, and I'll try to read it after watching. I always find that I absorb plays better if I read them, but it's nice to see everything first, so I have a good general concept to work with. ;)

I dont' know why my knee flares up (it's not even predictable with the weather changes.. just sometimes when the weather changes) because i've never injured ever. Stupid body.

There's such a difference between Shakespeare done well by people who know what their doing and people who don't know what they're doing. SOunds like it'll be awesome.

Bleck, that's too bad. Maybe it's just a weak joint? It seems like most people have at least one joint or system that's weak for them - mine tend to be my sinuses and my wrists. :P

There really is. Some kinds of shows can take mediocre acting without being hideous (though anything, of course, is better done by good actors who really understand the text!), but Shakespeare... there's just so much in the text that if the actors don't really get it, the whole thing can get lost. The historical aspect is a good part of it - back when the plays were written, so much of what's in them was common cultural knowledge that, now, just isn't. The common-man appeal of his plays has really faded over time, just because people don't know the things he's talking about anymore (the history, the classical mythology, and such). A good acting troupe can get past that, but a bad one doesn't have the know-how.
