or: "Never before have I been even a little bit tempted to drink drain cleaner."

So, last night we tried a Handy Home Remedy that some friends had suggested for plugged drains: Coca Cola. I bought two liters of Coke, and then poured it down both our bath drain and our bathroom sink, and watched the fizz.... and fizz... and fizz...

It worked brilliantly in the bathtub drain (yay, draining!), which is very good as [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret has very long hair and I... just shed a lot, apparently. But it did not so much work on the bathroom sink, largely because it seems that the bathroom sink is not plugged with hair but rather with some disgusting gritty stuff that I suspect is mineral deposit from the tap water. Eew.

Weirdest of all is that even after watching the dratted stuff eat away at nasty crap in our drains, I still feel a disturbing, gut-level desire to drink the remainder that's in our fridge. o_O That's just wrong. And, I believe, proof that Coke is actually addictive. I'm being strong, though! ...So far.

In other news:

a) I found my keys! In the pocket of the coat I seriously thought I hadn't worn for at least a week. I have no idea how that happened.

b) The weather has been shifting from Bright and Sunny! to OMG SO MUCH RAIN! on an average of once an hour. Flooding is apparently of near-Biblical proportions out where I grew up and so on, but in the city it's been pretty normal, honestly. *Shrugs*

c) My leg seems to be going back to normal! Apparently all it needed to start fixing itself was for me to throw an exaggeratedly stupid fit at poor [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret about how it was going to shrivel up and turn black and I'd DIE or something. It still feels icky if I sit for too long at a stretch, but that's not really unusual, I suppose.

d) Finally reading King Lear for the first time, and so far am completely boggled that I was given to read other, infinitely less interesting of the Bard's plays (*coughs*Measure for Measure*cough*) in class, but never this one. So far, at least, it's quite brilliant.

Also, the last season of Coupling kind of sucked, IMHO. Alas. I really liked all of it up til then...

God I hate Measure for Measure.
And also? Despite having cut out HFCS and caffeine and knowing what it does to my body? Some days I give in to the craving and have a Coke.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm sure it's very good on some levels that I'm just not catching on to, but... bleh.

Me too, on occasion. I try reeeeeally hard not to, though. And having it in the house is really not going to help that.

I should've bought diet. The aspartame taste (and the jitters I get off it) has more than trained me never to touch that stuff.

I'm sure it's good on some levels too, but (a) it's one of those 'awkward' plays that didn't age well at all. And (b) the 'hero' of the piece is a Duke who disappears in Act I and just likes to fuck with people because he's the Duke and he can.

Exactly so. I'm sure it was hilarious in its time, but now... meh. I felt it was more uncomfortable than funny.

Yeah, I'm of a similar mind of the ending of Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice. I also don't particularly like those folk songs where one half of the loving couple tempts the other half into betrayal to 'test their love'. So YMMV.

One of the hardest things I ever did was give up caffeinated Coke. I still drink decaf from time to time, but it's not the same.

The last season of Coupling sucked like an F5.

I never even drank that much of it to begin with, but it's been impossible for me to give up that last occasional bottle! It's insane! The only worse food addiction is french fries. Which are just impossible to give up, plain and simple.

There were a few moments I liked (the phone conversation between everyone being the only example I can think of), but for the most part... um... yeah. Where was Moffat's head when he wrote that thing? And what on earth happened to the actor who played Jeff, that they suddenly had to write him out like that? Boo.

Mmmm. I am forbidden the french fries as well. But they call to me!

Oh god, me too. It's insane - I start craving them like mad until I finally give in and go someplace where I can have them. That and chicken tenders are my fast food weaknesses. Oh, and fish and chips.
