only another monday
Feb. 11th, 2008 02:13 pmI had another of those nights last night where, no matter what I did, I couldn't actually seem to start writing until about 9:30pm. After that it was all a rush, all easy (not surprising, really, since I was starting something totally new...), and it was all I could do to stop myself at 11pm so I could go to bed. I hate stopping when the words are actually coming, but I would have been dead in the water at work today if I'd not.
And then, after getting a late start to bed to begin with, there was some kind of major hubbub outside around 3am. Lots of sirens and... a really loud, repetitive whooshing that I suppose was wind, but which, in my not-awake head, turned into I don't know what. Whatever it was, it crept into my dreams and wouldn't leave me alone. Not helped at all by watching a reasonably icky episode of Torchwood last night ("Meat"), and spending most of the day mulling over all the most depressing and creepy parts of my giganta-fic. I hate when that sort of stuff invades my subconscious when I'm not all the way awake.
I'm not sure what actually happened, since it sounded like the sirens were going away and then coming back over and over again (possibly just me dreaming, but it might also have been something to do with the fact that I live literally half a block from the local fire station), and this morning the street sign on our corner had been knocked over and terribly mangled, someone's tires had gashed a great big divot in the grass at the corner. At a guess, I'd say it was probably a car-chase, but I haven't yet tracked down the news.
...And lo and behold, I was right. Jackass driving 100 mph on the freeway, just happened to pull off in my neighborhood. Then blew a tire (on my street corner...) and drove the rest of the way to Woodlawn on his rims before hitting a parked car. He's "being investigated" for being under the influence. Riiiiight. Bastard.
Very weird, anyway, and not at all conducive to sleep. Particularly not since my cat decided that my being awake at 3am meant that it was time to start "playing" and trying to get my attention by chewing on random stuff and trying to open my closet door. Bleh.
So, unsurprisingly, I'm a bit tired today. Otherwise doing pretty well, though.
