vanity redux
Sep. 19th, 2008 08:57 amSo, this morning I had the brilliant idea of wearing the pair of gothy new boots I bought last weekend, with my Torchwood t-shirt, patterned tights and a denim skirt. Great idea, right? Except my new boots? Are evil. I have no idea how they felt so perfectly functional in the store, because once I was out of my apartment it was pretty much immediately clear they were going to be a problem. Not because of the height (platforms and heels) so much as the fact that the soles? Have no traction at all. That. Is a problem. As I immediately proved by trying to hug the cement about a block from my apartment after I foolishly attempted to trot in them to catch my bus.
I caught my bus. I also caught the cement in the palms of my hands and on both knees. Ow. Ow ow ow ow ow.
I had another spill before getting to the office (no injuries that time, which is good since I'd already screwed over all four limbs for the day) due to slippery heels on a damned incline (Seattle is full of inclines. It is, in many ways, one big incline.) and then took the elevator to the second floor (never have I been so ashamed) and immediately traded out the Boots of Evil for my spare work-out trainers, and a trip to the first aid kit for three gauze bandages, six band-aids, antiseptic cream, and two ibuprofen to (hopefully) cut the swelling in my poor pathetic knees. I'm using electrical tape to keep the band-aids steady on my palms so that I can type. And I look absolutely ridiculous because I had to cut up my plaid-patterned tights so that I could tape the gauze onto my knees. Oh, and I hurt, damn it!
And now I'm going to get some work done. Ow. Sort of.

Date: 2008-09-19 05:35 pm (UTC)I used to be so sensible about shoes, in college. Ever since getting a good office job, it's like I keep forgetting that I have to walk in the damned things, too... *Shakes head*

My sympathies. I fall a lot, so trust me, I feel you, hon. *hugs*

Really works and dosen't cost too much. :)

Date: 2008-09-19 11:13 pm (UTC)I've also heard that sand paper on the bottoms of shoes or boots works pretty well. Until then, maybe wear sensible shoes TO work and change into yummy boots once there.
I hope the rest of your day is going much better, and I agree, skinned knees REALLY hurt, and as adults we forget how much.
