rivendellrose: (dandelion day)

I suck at organizing things. And just realized (really realized, I mean, not in that vague "oh yeah, that'll happen at some point" kind of way) that I am turning 26 in exactly a week. o_O

In other news, we marked out the pattern (the actual paper-bits, not the cloth) for the skirt and sleeves of my Halloween costume last night. Tonight is the robe. That... ought to be easy, but also annoying, both because the pieces are bigger. If I'm brave and not as exhausted as I was yesterday, I might even do a little cutting of fabric, so I'll have it all done and can do at least some of the actual sewing of things over the weekend. That way I have plenty of time to panic fix things if I screw up. (I don't sew often... it's nerve-wracking working with all the pretty fabric I bought.)

I'm pretty sure I had other things that I was going to say, but it all faded into a haze of "oh god, I am so damned tired." I hate when the days start getting shorter... I always get sooo tiiiiired. And work picks up at exactly the same time, so it's like the ultimate double-whammy.

Do you have SAD? I didn't realize I did until I moved to Washington from California. I adore the rain and don't mind the cold, but the darkness got to me. I don't feel depressed per se, but I do feel like I want to sleep 14 hours/day.

My doc recommended taking St. John's Wort and light therapy. Last winter started to kick my ass, so I think I'm going to try both of those this year.

What do you usually do to kick the winter blues/sleepiness?

I kind of figure everybody in Seattle has it to some extent, honestly. ;) And it's not depression for me either, just exhaustion. I'm guessing it's hitting me so bad these last few years because when I was in college I was up and about all day, and more of my day was spent running around in what little light was available. Now that I'm an office slug (even one with a window view, for the moment) it's a bit trickier.

I'm really interested in the light therapy, since that's my primary way of surviving... I usually try to walk outside as much as possible during the winter, and I know that helps, to the extent I'm able to actually do it.

Other than that, I drink a lot of tea (...less, now that I know it makes my heart wonky), and listen to music and audio books at work to keep my brain functioning.

One of my customers, Bob and Bunny (I think you know them, they remember you) anyway, he has SAD, and the light therapy works really well for him. He sits under it while he's on the computer, or eating his breakfast 1st thing in the morning, I think he said for 20-30 minutes, and felt so much more alert and happy last year than he has in the past.
Speaking of birthday coming.....what would you like?
Also, are you using Kendra's sewing machine, or do you need to use mine? I'd be glad to bring it up to you if you'd like.

Yeah, the days growing shorter seems to suck the life out of me too. I have a light therapy lamp, but currently the morning light still shines so brightly into my bedroom and kitchen in the morning that I haven't found a use for it.

The morning light shines in the morning. Proof-reading, I should look into it! :)

Our apartment has kind of crap lighting, honestly, so... I probably ought to look into one of those little guys. Stupid seasons changing and messing things up... :P

Sure, I remember Bob and Bunny! It's a good idea, but I'd probably have to shift my schedule a bit so that I'm, well, awake for a bit longer while I'm still in the apartment. I eat breakfast at work nowadays, so I pretty much just get up, get dressed, and go. Changing that is an option, though. :D

Honestly? I think what I really need is a new bookshelf. That wire one that I got for my bedroom is more or less worthless for anything much heavier than a picture frame, and I need more storage in my room. Maybe we could go on an IKEA excursion?

And yup, I'm using Kendra's machine for the costume, so we should be fine. XD

An Ikea excursion sounds like fun. I can't do it this weekend, but I'd love to get together next weekend if you have some time for maybe Ikea and a birthday meal?

Next Saturday works for me - Sunday could also work, possibly, but I'd have to be more specific about the time (I'm going to a party in the... evening, I think?).

Love you, too!
