I'm so glad to know that a decent percentage of supposedly-moral conservative leaders are against repealing my state's domestic partnership act (giving gay couples all legal right attributed by the state to marriage except the exact wording of the relationship) because it's not the right time. That's right - the people who are backing out of an attempted repeal aren't backing out because it would be wrong to keep people from having rights to their loved ones - no. They're backing out because "people are focused on the economy."

To see the asshats in action, go here.

Personally, I suspect this means the smart ones know that the tide's against them right now so they're trying to wait for a better time. This is one of those times I really sort of wish I didn't live in such a thoroughly liberal neighborhood - no conservative in his/her right mind would look for signatures in Greenlake, but I really sort of wish one of these morons would try me. I'd love to give them a piece of my mind.

... oh man, I wonder if that's why there's suddenly all these religious people yelling at the farmer's market these past two weeks. In the entire what, four or five years I've been semi-regularly going there, there's never been anything but like, the Real Change people and a few environment petitioners, but for the past two weeks there've been people holding up REPENT SINNERS and TRUST IN JESUS signs and yelling about sin and hellfire and damnation. It makes going to the market a lot less fun. :(

Those asshats. Yes. I saw them the other weekend and it took a looooooooot of energy not to go over and ask them to please stop ruining the peace of the farmer's market. Thanks for reminding me... I meant to look up the group that runs the farmer's market and see if I could complain about them and possibly get them removed. Because hell if I'm going to go through the gauntlet of religious asshats to get my fruit.

Them in their damned fricking megaphones and shouting and nasty attitudes. I wonder what would happen if I just walked up and said very politely "Jesus would be so disappointed in you."

It was really sad, actually--I love going to the farmer's market, and the people there are always really nice; I have no idea why the religious right is suddenly swarming the place. I mean, they're targeting farmers and making it difficult for anyone to get by without having to interact with them briefly, and they always disperse after the market's over. (One man in particular was so loud that I could actually hear him from my apartment when I had the windows open--and you know where we are, two blocks away.)

The thing is, NO ONE in the area likes them. I saw at least four people flipping them off last weekend, one pair of guys (I don't know if they were actually dating or just trying to piss the guy off) snuggle after talking to one, and people yelling back at them, and they just kept on, undaunted. Personally, I want to go find and memorize the one Bible verse that says--the proper way to worship is to do it privately in your own home, not paraded on display like you have something to prove to others, and use that.

Civil Unions are sacred, and mandated by G*d to be between a penis and a vagina. To think otherwise is moral turpitude.
