To absolutely no one's surprise, John Barrowman confirms that there will somehow be a 4th season of Torchwood with the normal 13 episodes.

No word yet on whether it will have actual characters, or for how long they will live. :P

I know I say this every year... but I am so freaking done with this show. Unless their cast for this coming season turns out to consist of PC Andy, Martha Jones, all three fantastic female characters created in Children of Earth, and also That Guy They Killed in the First Episode of Children of Earth, with special all-series-guests Naoko Mori and Burn Gorman in a special "sorry, we were stupid, we should never have killed our best actors!" last minute turnaround... I just don't freaking care anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love the remaining normal cast, but... well... not that much.

Oh, and they can make Mfanwy a major character, too. That'd help. I might watch that.

Stay tuned for six months from now, when, by virtue of BBC mind control, I still somehow end up getting excited for this stupid thing for the fourth year in a row and end up unwittingly watching the whole series, while all the while bitching and moaning about how it really could be good, if they would just get some decent writers.

Edit: In other news: New Moon in Fifteen Minutes. ♥

Not gonna lie: I love Burn Gorman to death. I didn't give two hoots that Owen was a skeeze at the beginning, I loved Owen! When they killed him, I was SO DONE. I didn't even watch COE because It didn't have Owen or Tosh (or Martha) in it. Seriously? No. I like Eve Myles, but I am on and off on Gwen. Bah... TW, DW... I can't believe how dead these shows are to me. WILL I HAVE NO FANDOM?!?! I miss geeking out about stupid stuff!

Owen was awesome. He was a skeeze, but Burn played him so beautifully, even through the constantly-changing characterization that the writers handed him. And Tosh! Naoko did such a good job of making something out of that character, despite the cliches and shitty writing! And of course I adore Martha, and loved seeing her on a grown-up show where she was allowed to be a grown-up (and her and John Barrowman had fantastic chemistry, IMHO, although that's not saying much since both of them could have fantastic chemistry with a trash can. It's like a magic talent).

But yeah... Gwen, occasionally amusing to me, but only in association with other characters I like. And Rhys, not even then. He bores me. As in to tears.

I'm still desperately clinging to the idea that DW will someday not be crap again. But it's with a very real sensation that it's probably going to be a while before that happens. :P

I really, really want to know how they're going to do this, actually. It seemed to me that Torchwood as we knew it was dead and buried and that if it came back it would be something else under the same name, new cast, new sets, hopefully new writers and informed by the fantastic success of 'Children of Earth' and how that worked. The five-part serial was so good for Torchwood, for the exploration of consequences and fears and doubts that it's supposed to be about and needs time devoted to each story to actually do with any sort of depth.

If it comes back like it used to be, in that format and with that cast, and still carrying the burden of bad characterisation and horrible, unadventurous, envelope-snuggling subtext (which it took the 'Children of Earth' franchise murder to make go away)...

I just can't see how it can be good.

That's my feeling as well - they've destroyed pretty much everything that made the show what it was, killed off everyone but Jack and Gwen, and shot Jack off into space (presumably so that he can show up on the Tenth Doctor finale, be angsty, and receive some sort of absolution from the Doctor all over again).

I can see a few ways they could resurrect it, but I don't particularly like any of them. I was in it for the characters - the characters are gone, so I'm out of here. If they bring some of them back, that may change (depending on who it is), but... well, their writing's always been shit, so I won't exactly cry if they don't manage anything I care about. I'm done.
