Vintage Tokyo Subway Posters.

They're awesome. And sometimes really hilarious. Also, Japanese has so many better puns than English. I'm jealous. ♥ Wish they'd still had posters like these when I was over there last year.

Wow, some of those are just beautiful. And very imaginative! I'm still laughing about Jesus at the Last Supper confronted by a pile of umbrellas; I would never have guessed that to be such a pressing problem.

Yeah, that surprised me, too! I can certainly imagine things get left behind, but I was hardly tripping over umbrellas on the trains my week in Tokyo. Maybe the posters did their job!

In the 70s or 80s, Pepsi had a very successful ad campaign in the U.S. using the phrase "Come Alive With Pepsi!"

In Japan they papered the subway system with a "Japanese" version. Complaints rained down on the Japanese subway folks because the way it translated read; "Bring Your Dead Ancestors Back To Life With Pepsi!"

Those are awesome. The posters I saw on the subway trains were neat and very different from those on American buses, but nothing as inventive and oddball as those vintage posters.
