From [livejournal.com profile] cordeliadelayne: There's a poll here asking for opinions of the whole LJ/Facebook/Twitter issue. LJ staff have seen and are watching the results. Go there and make your opinion known should you desire to do so.

For the record, now that it has been proven that the posts do not/cannot contain the text of locked entries (see [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda for details/explanations), I'm honestly feeling fairly blase about the whole thing, but I still think this is the sort of thing that ought to have an opt-out option (which I would take).

I am so, so new to actually using LJ, but what kind of struck me as shitty about the whole thing was not necessarily the decision to add the ticky boxes, but that they didn't even bother to check to see if anyone would want such an option to begin with. And yeah, I don't understand making these kinds of changes and not making it something that people could choose to add to their pages, rather than just sticking it in there across the board.

Of course, I think people also like to complain, and people like being a part of dra-mah.

Yeah, welcome to LJ. That's pretty much how things happen around here. I've been using it regularly for... uhhhh.... way too long. Six or seven years, something insane like that. They used to be better about stuff like this, but it's been like this for at least the last five years or so.

It would make a lot more sense if they made it something you could turn on if you wanted it, but... all I can say is, that's not how Six Apart works, apparently.

I'd be careful about that "cannot" notion -- this comment contains some text from an entry of yours. If it were a locked entry, it'd have text of a locked entry in it.

Besides, simply not containing the literal text of locked entries isn't sufficient anyway. This lady has an excellent explanation of why.
