three tens
Oct. 10th, 2010 05:08 pmToday is 10/10/10. A neat number. The Boy tells me this (101010, that is) is 42 in binary, and I'm forced to believe him since... well, I can't read binary. ;)
So far the extent of this date's vast supernatural and mystical meaning for me has been that it's apparently a very good day for walking circles around the office drinking tea and listening to random folk music, pulling random books off the shelf and then putting them back after remembering that they won't really help me decide what mythical people would do for Halloween. Hmm. Pity, that. I have books to tell me a lot of things, but that's not one of them.
Also, that apparently nothing I write is short anymore. When did that happen?

Date: 2010-10-11 04:02 am (UTC)So with 101010, read right-to-left for ease of explanation, we have:
0 x 2^0 (i.e. 0 x 1 ... aka 0)
1 x 2^1 (i.e. 1 x 2 ... aka 2)
0 x 2^2 (i.e. 0 x 4 ... aka 0)
1 x 2^3 (i.e. 1 x 8 ... aka 8)
0 x 2^4 (i.e. 0 x 16... aka 0)
1 x 2^5 (i.e. 1 x 32... aka 32)
32+8+2 = 42
Win!

Date: 2010-10-11 01:42 pm (UTC)I finished my original novel yesterday (well, first draft of, anyway), which makes all the numerical symbolism of the day kinda funny to me. Not that I expect my book to be the answer to life, the universe, and everything . . but it's amusing.

Date: 2010-10-11 04:01 pm (UTC)Congratulations on the novel! ♥ I'd love to finish one of those bastards some day - every time I start an actual original novel I end up getting about a third of the way in and realizing I don't have enough plot to hold up an actual book, or I just get bored of the concept. Must work on that. :P
