The snow is forecast to get worse here for a while, so [livejournal.com profile] nekokoban and I bailed out of the office at 3:30 to take an offered ride from a team-mate who lives in our area.

I only got home ten minutes ago. It took over an for us to drive the 15 miles from the office to downtown, in part because on that (again, 15 mile) stretch of freeway we passed:

3 jack-knifed buses
3 cars stalled on a bridge, wheels spinning but unable to get purchase
4 accidents (one of which was still actively on fire
1 roadblocked ambulance (with lights flaring)

And tonight it's supposed to get even colder, snow even more, and freeze the slush and snow that's already on the ground. I am so not going in to work unless it miraculously gets a lot better, because I really don't want to get trapped at my office if, say, the buses decide to stop running. It's supposed to warm up on Wednesday in preparation for the traditional Seattle Thanksgiving weather of rain and muck at about 40F. Not so pretty, but a hell of a lot less awkward to travel in.

D: Yikes. Seattle is clearly not prepared for the snow. Good luck with it all tomorrow.

Yeah, we just don't know how to cope. A lot of drivers don't know how to function in the snow, and even the ones that do can have a hard time on our roads with all the hills and crap. So, yeah. Office is closed today, and I am happy. ♥

Yeahhh that's not a good combination. I remember having a hard enough time navigating Seattle without snow.

:D Well, hey, that means you get Doctor Who Day off work. ♥

Yeah, just got through watching the news, and I'm really, really glad I didn't go anywhere today. Am not planning to anywhere tomorrow, either. Probably not till Wednesday afternoon, actually [g].

Snowpocalypse strikes again. I've got about five inches on the ground out there, and the wind is picking up. Please, may I keep my electricity? Pretty please?

Yeah, Wednesday things are supposed to start getting normal again, I guess. We only got about 3 inches, but that's serious business for downtown!

I hope your power stayed on!!!

We got about five out here in the wilds of Puyallup [g]. My power did stay on, thank goodness. I hope yours did, too.

The real problem is the sheet of ice on the shaded, uphill, curving driveway leading out of my condo complex [sigh]. It's not going away until we get above freezing tomorrow.

That's good! We set out candles and matches and our big flashlight just in case, but in reality we're probably the least likely people in all of western Washington to lose power for any amount of time - we live directly across the street from one of the major downtown hospitals, and mere blocks from three others.

Driveways, though... yeah, we had the same problem going out for coffee this morning. The apartment complex was giving a go at shoveling it up as we went, but it's still really slippery out there.

I have a battery-operated lantern (looks like a Coleman lantern, but has fluorescent tubes where the mantle would be) that I use when I travel. I carried it around the condo with me during the windstorm last week and Sunday night and last night [g]. Just in case.

I'm hoping to be able to get out tomorrow. I really need to get to one of my freelance gigs -- I've been able to work from home yesterday and today, but I'm reaching the point where I need to go there to get some things done (I have two museum-related gigs, BTW [g] -- one is building an exhibit for the Lakewood Historical Society, and the other is accessioning and cataloging the ginormous photograph collection for the Tacoma Historical Society).

I saw that about your gigs - I meant to reply and congratulate you, if I didn't! The photography thing especially sounds like a lot of fun - I cataloged photos and artwork for the James and Janie Washington Museum for my practicum, and I adored every minute of it. (Well, maybe not the bits to do with the back-ache I got after leaning over the table. But everything else.) ♥ Best of luck with those!

Thank you! I just put together a supply order yesterday, and I'm going to be installing PastPerfect on their computer next week [g]. It's going to be nice to be starting that part of the whole shebang from scratch. No peculiar decisions to work around or undo the way I had to at the Meeker Mansion for my practicum.

I still can't believe I'm going to be dealing with glass plate negatives.

Stay warm!

I'm glad you left early. God only knows what time you'd have gotten home if you left at 6:00. One of the girls I work with FINALLY called ay 9:40 to say she was home safe! Poor Endelisa!

Yup, there's no way we could negotiate all those side roads to peoples houses!
