anonymity = sometimes not a bad thing

Some of them are twerps, and some of them are totally annoying, but, you know, I really like some of the vigilante sides of Anonymous.
For instance: Check out this letter they sent Westboro Church (they of the infamous Fred Phelps and associated protests).
It won't really help much, of course. We've already seen that Phelps takes whatever counter-protesters throw at him and just moves on to something equally heinous in another spot. But I still enjoy every time we get to see his smug, hateful little group get pwned by good people who take a stand against hatred... and I kind of love when those good people happen to a) be on the internet, and b) have a really fantastic flair for the dramatic.
I'll be ready and waiting with the popcorn for this one, Anonymous. ♥

Date: 2011-02-21 10:30 pm (UTC)...Thing is, I always find it kind of awkward when Anonymous announces they didn't do something because, by sheer virtue of being Anonymous, I can't help thinking there's a sort of tautological error inherent any time they say "oh, we didn't do that! It was some other Anonymous group!"
It's kind of like the guy a while ago (cannot link at the moment, but Scott turned it up in his daily news feeds a week or so ago, so I'm sure I could turn it back up) from some financial thing who claimed he'd "infiltrated" Anonymous and got the names and addresses of the "ring-leaders." Which kind of made me go "...but, this is Anonymous we're talking about. I thought the whole point was pretty much that it was more or less whoever happened to be on 4chan at that moment and interested in whatever the subject was. Or just bored."
